GUTA Urges Traders to Reduce Prices as Cedi Strengthens

The Ghana Union of Traders’ Associations (GUTA) has called on traders across the country to adjust their prices downward to reflect the recent gains made by the Ghanaian cedi against major trading currencies.

In a statement signed by its President, Dr. Joseph Obeng, GUTA appealed to the trading community to consider the positive shift in the exchange rate and pass on the benefits to consumers by reducing the cost of goods and services.

The union said such a move would not only provide much-needed relief to the consuming public but also boost confidence in the economy and help stabilize the market.

GUTA’s appeal comes amid growing public concern over high prices despite a stronger cedi, which has seen notable appreciation against the US dollar and other major currencies in recent weeks. The association believes that a collective response by traders could help ease the economic burden on Ghanaians.

Dr. Obeng expressed optimism that traders would heed the call in the interest of national development and consumer welfare.
