Afua Asantewaa, a singer and media personality from Ghana, failed in her second attempt to break the Guinness World Record for the longest individual singing marathon.
Her attempt has been deemed invalid due to violations of the official rest break guidelines, the Guinness World Records (GWR) team has confirmed after a thorough review.
Afua Asantewaa’s team broke the rule that allows participants to take five minutes off for every hour of continuous performance, according to a formal statement from GWR.
The GWR specifically mentioned two significant non-compliance incidents that resulted in the disqualification: Afua allegedly took a 15-minute break during the 19th sequence of her performance, which took place at 23 hours and 25 minutes, exceeding her allotted 5-minute rest period by 10 minutes.
Even though she had only accrued 10 minutes of rest time as required by the GWR regulations, she took a much longer break of 105 minutes later, during the 21st sequence.
In order to guarantee fairness and integrity throughout all attempts, the Guinness World Records team stressed that rigorous adherence to all regulations is essential for the validation of any record claim. Therefore, it was not possible to approve Afua Asantewaa’s second attempt due to the identified violations.
Afua Asantewaa is resilient and hopeful in spite of this setback and the prior invalidation of her first attempt.
“It’s been a challenging yet rewarding journey. Exploring my potential on the Guinness World Records platform has brought about growth, discovery, and life-altering experiences.” Afua Asantewaa said reflecting on her efforts.
Following the GWR’s ruling, she made a heartfelt statement in which she thanked Ghanaians and her supporters around the world for their unwavering support and faith during both of her record attempts.
For their invaluable support throughout her ambitious endeavours, she also expressed her sincere gratitude to her committed team, numerous sponsors, including the distinguished Otumfuo Nana Osei Tutu II, and various corporate entities.
Even though this is her second failed attempt to break the singing marathon record, Afua Asantewaa confirmed that her journey and goals are far from over, implying that she will continue to work towards them.
