Health Minister promises to address UGMC "tussle" by Friday

The Minister for health, Kwaku Agyemang-Manu, has assured the general public of a positive response on the University of Ghana Medical Center (UGMC) by Friday.

Speaking to the press in Parliament on Thursday, the Health Minister asked Ghanaians to expect some good news by Friday.

“There is very good news. When I was just facing you, the Minister for Information called me. He wants some good briefings from me and I think by Friday, we would have come out [with something].”

An “Open UGMC” campaign has surfaced on social media after a university of Ghana student, Reginald Sekyi-Brown, was arrested for holding a placard with the inscription “Open UGMC now” while the First Lady, Rebecca Akufo-Addo was delivering a speech at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital.

The campaign according to reports was to draw the attention of the first lady to the state of the University of Ghana Medical Centre.

The Police however mentioned that he was arrested because he breached security at the event.
