Igbo King in Ghana Congratulates Mahama, Calls for Youth Empowerment and African Unity

King of the Igbo in Ghana, His Royal Majesty, Eze (Dr.) Amb. Chukwudi Jude Ihenetu, extended heartfelt congratulations to Ghana’s President-elect, John Dramani Mahama, following his victory in the 2024 elections.
Speaking on behalf of the Igbo community and other foreign nationals in Ghana, Eze Ihenetu praised Ghana’s exemplary democratic processes and called for continued unity and progress under the incoming administration.

Addressing the Press at his beautiful Palace in Accra, Eze Ihenetu described Mahama’s re-election as “the work of God” and lauded the peaceful nature of Ghana’s elections since 1992.
“Ghana has shown the world what good governance and democracy should look like,” he said, urging other African nations to emulate Ghana’s electoral discipline and peaceful transitions of power.

The Igbo King also acknowledged the hospitality and love extended to foreign nationals in Ghana, emphasizing the importance of maintaining harmony between locals and expatriates. He highlighted the contributions of Nigerians and other foreign communities to Ghana’s economy, encouraging his compatriots to continue working hard to support the nation’s development while respecting its laws and traditions.

In a passionate appeal to African youth, Eze Ihenetu urged them to shift their focus from seeking opportunities abroad to building a thriving future within the continent.
“We have everything we need here in Africa—fertile lands, resources, and talent. Instead of sending money overseas to create jobs elsewhere, we should invest in ourselves,” he said.
He encouraged governments to support youth-driven initiatives and industries, emphasizing that empowering young Africans would reduce unemployment and migration while fostering sustainable development.

The monarch also called on African governments to establish funds and frameworks to assist young entrepreneurs in turning their ideas into businesses, especially in agriculture and manufacturing. “Our youth must embrace creativity and hard work. Governments must back them with financial and technical support to build industries that will make Africa self-reliant,” he added.
