President John Dramani Mahama has urged Ghanaians to recognize that while independence brought freedom, it also places a continuing responsibility on citizens to safeguard and build the nation.
Speaking at Ghana’s 69th Independence Day celebration, the President emphasized that the country’s hard-won independence must be matched with discipline, unity, and commitment to national development.
Addressing dignitaries, traditional leaders, members of the diplomatic corps, students, and citizens gathered for the national event, President Mahama noted that independence was achieved through the sacrifices of Ghana’s founding leaders and patriots.
However, he stressed that sustaining the gains of freedom requires dedication and responsible citizenship from every Ghanaian.
President Mahama called on citizens to embrace patriotism, honesty, and hard work as essential values needed to move the country forward.
He indicated that building a strong and prosperous nation requires the collective effort of government, the private sector, and ordinary citizens.
The President also encouraged young people to appreciate the significance of independence and to play active roles in shaping the future of the nation.
According to him, the youth hold the key to Ghana’s long-term development and must be empowered to contribute positively to national growth.
