The General Secretary of the People’s National Convention (PNC), Atik Mohammed has asserted that Executive Director of the Institute of the Economic Affairs (IEA) is a perfect replacement for Charlotte Osei as Chairperson of the Eletoral Commision .
President Akufo-Addo in a statement earlier on Monday announced the appointment of Jean Mensah as the new chairperson of the electoral commission.
In an interview on Accra based Asempa FM, he pointed out that it is about time, all political parties rose above all petty unproductive partisan politics.
According to him, the newly appointed EC chairperson is familiar with the electoral process of Ghana and the focus of further discussions should be on the competences of the appointed chairperson and not otherwise.
Reacting to earlier comments made by Koku Anyidoho who seemed unhappy about the appointment, he said that:“We’ve gone past the stage where we will say that Charlotte Osei was not lawfully taken out of office. The argument should now focus on whether the newly appointed boss is competent, whether she is up to the task, if the answers to these questions are yes, then anything apart from that becomes immaterial”.
He further noted that he has absolutely no problem with the other appointees and congratulated him (president) for the appointments made.
