Kennedy Agyapong Is the Hope of NPP – Governor

Kennedy Agyapong

The Greater Accra regional Director of Operation of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kofi Antwi, also known as Governor, has described Hon. Kennedy Ohene Agyapong as the beacon of hope for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) following the party’s crushing defeat in the 2024 general elections.

According to him, Kennedy Agyapong has emerged as the rallying force capable of reinvigorating the party and inspiring its supporters.

The NPP suffered a significant blow in the elections, with its presidential candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, securing only 41% of the vote, while former President John Dramani Mahama of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) won with 56.5%. The party’s parliamentary representation was also drastically reduced to 88 seats, compared to the NDC’s 183.

In the aftermath of this defeat, the party was plunged into uncertainty. However, Kennedy Agyapong, a six-time Member of Parliament for Assin Central, has stepped forward as a unifying figure. His influence within the NPP was already evident during the 2023 presidential primaries, where, despite losing, he gained widespread recognition as a formidable force in the party.

After a brief trip to the United States, Kennedy Agyapong returned to Ghana to a hero’s welcome from hundreds of NPP supporters at the airport. Instead of dwelling on the party’s defeat, he immediately took action, visiting communities in distress.

On January 2, 2025, he visited Accra’s Kantamanto Market, where a devastating fire had destroyed thousands of stalls and left traders in financial ruin. He later traveled to Kumasi’s Adum Market, which also suffered a major fire outbreak on March 21. In both locations, Agyapong did not just express sympathy—he provided tangible support, reinforcing his reputation as a man of action rather than mere words.

His efforts have reignited a sense of hope among party faithful, many of whom now look to him for leadership. Rather than encouraging internal blame, he has urged the NPP to focus on rebuilding and preparing for the future.

“In politics, every season has its leader, and right now, Kennedy Agyapong is the force capable of leading the NPP’s resurgence,” – Governor Kofi Antwi stated.

As the party seeks a path forward, Agyapong’s decisive leadership, grassroots appeal, and ability to mobilize support will be crucial. His recent actions suggest he is ready to step into a bigger role in shaping the future of the NPP.
