A fire outbreak that occurred at Kisseman Junction slum, near Achimota-Samodak on Wednesday dawn has taken the life of a four month old baby.
Aside from the baby, the fire destroyed shops, apartments and household items.
Reports states that the Fire Service struggled to quench the fire due to the highly combustible materials involved.
According to the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), firefighters from the Legon and Abelemkpe Fire Stations responded swiftly, arriving at 0424 hours—just 12 minutes after receiving the distress call at 0412 hours.
The GNFS indicated that the team’s prompt efforts prevented the fire from spreading to nearby buildings, including a warehouse.
Despite their intervention, over 20 wooden residential structures and their contents were destroyed.
GNFS noted that the fire was brought under control at 0502 hours and fully extinguished at 0646 hours.
As at the time of filing this report, the cause of fire at Kisseman had not been established. However, the Ghana National Fire Service is investigating the cause of fire.
“The charred remains of the infant have been handed over to the Police, while the GNFS investigates the cause of the fire,” it stated.
