Kumasi road rage: Shooter and victim dead

Francis Zabanga, a 31-year-old man who shot Kwame Amoah, 52 at Ayeduase in the Ashanti Region in the midst of an argument caused by traffic has been confirmed dead.

The victim, Kwame Amoah also died earlier in the same hospital both were receiving treatment.

According to police report, on Tuesday, 17/11/2020 at about 07:30 hrs, Francis Zabanga, 31, was in charge of a private car, Kia Optima with registration No. GR 2019 – 17,  dark in colour driving from Ayeduase area towards KNUST gate.

On reaching a section of the road near Access Bank LTD, he accused a certain man of driving recklessly which led to exchange of words between them.

Kwame Amoah, 52, a painter who was also present went in to separate them but Francis Zabanga slapped Kwame Amoah and he also retaliated with a slap.

Francis Zabanga  got offended, pulled a pistol from his car and shot Kwame Amoah on the abdomen.

Upon sensing danger that, he might have killed Kwame Amoah, he drove his car and parked at the forecourt of Access Bank LTD, Ayeduase gate.

The police said some onlookers tried to cause damage to the car and attempted lynching him but the KNUST patrol team got to scene and ordered Francis Zabanga to raise his hand but he rather shot himself with his pistol in the occiput.

Kwame Amoah was rushed to KNUST hospital but was referred to KATH, Kumasi for medical attention whiles Francis Zabanga was also rushed to KATH for treatment.

According to the police, One Smith & Wesson Pistol with 16 rounds of ammunition were retrieved.

The police also said the car was towed to KNUST Police Station. Crime scene personnel were invited to scene for initial enquiries, adding that One 9mm pistol empty shell was also recovered from the scene where he shot himself.

The two are now dead and have therefore been deposited at the morgue.
