Let’s intensify fight against football hooliganism- Gideon Fosu

Gideon Fosu, GFA EXCO Member and Vice President of Akosombo Kings Palace has proposed a strategy for preventing hooliganism in our local football divisions, including the Premier League and Lower Divisions, and explained how this menace has impeded the development of the sports.

Football hooliganism pertains to disruptive, violent, and destructive conduct exhibited by irate supporters of football clubs, encompassing acts such as vandalism, intimidation, and brawling.

Speaking on Atinka FM’s Legends Show, Gideon urged football stakeholders to adopt proactive measures to curtail hooliganism at the various centers in all Ghana football divisions. “Club licensing must ensure that football match centers are safe enough for football to be played,” he stated.
It is crucial, he emphasized, that club proprietors educate fans on the proper conduct that should be observed at different football venues.

He emphasized, “Regardless of the outcome following a match, supporters should pick themselves up and move on.”
Once more, Gideon Fosu emphasized that the Ghana Football Association should implement punitive actions to deter clubs from engaging in hooliganism. An instance of hooliganism transpiring during a football match between Bofoakwa Tano and Nsoatreman, which resulted in the hospitalization of Nsoatreman’s head coach, Maxwell Konadu, was referenced by him.

He stated that the lack of protection for coaches and athletes at league centers reignited the debate regarding their safety. Subsequently, he beseeched the law enforcement agencies to intensify their efforts in order to facilitate progress.
