Students above 18 years have been permitted to go home and partake in the ongoing limited voter registration exercise, a directive from the Ghana Education Service (GES) has hinted.

GES in a letter to its regional directorates asked heads of schools to allow students above 18 years to go home and partake in the ongoing limited voter registration exercise for their voter ID cards.

The permission per the circular to the Regional Directors of education forms “part of the constitutional regulation for all Ghanaian citizens to exercise their franchise”.

It later stated: “The Form two (2) students are granted three (3) days effective Friday, 22nd to Sunday, 24th September, 2023.

Apart from the Nkoranza North and Nkoranza South districts in the Bono East Region where the elections will not take place, all other Electoral Areas totaling 6,272 will have their elections on December 19. The Electoral Commission is hoping to register 1,350,000 new voters by the close of the Registration exercise this year.

The ongoing limited voter registration is targeting to register at least 1.35 million people who have turned 18 years old since the last registration exercise in 2020.
