Midland horror: Akufo –Addo backs sanctions against erring officer

President Nana Akufo-Addo  says he  supports the action being taken against the police officer who beat a nursing mother mercilessly at  the  banking hall of the Shiashie branch of Midland Savings and Loans .

A video of the horrific incident sparked outrage across the country after it was posted on social media Friday, a day after  it  occurred.  The officer in question, Lance Corporal Frederick Amanor has been interdicted as the police begin an internal enquiry.

The victim, Patience Osafo, a mother of three is being supported by several groups to initiate legal action against the state .

Addressing residents of Nalerigu Saturday during his tour of the Northern Region, President Akufo-Addo said he supports 100 percent the measures the IGP has taken against the officer “so that we can stop these incidents from proliferating.”

“Yesterday we had some very bad news in Accra – police beating up a woman who had gone to get money at the Midland Loans and Savings Company. I want to say here: policemen are meant to protect citizens and not to assault citizens.”

“The measures that the IGP has taken to sanction the erring policeman and to make sure these don’t happen again, have my complete support. I support 100 percent the measures he has taken so that we can stop these incidents from proliferating,” he added.
