Minority’s “bloody widow” placards offensive – Joe Osei Owusu

The First  Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Joseph Osei Owusu, has expressed disappointment in the Minority’s display of “bloody widow” placards in Parliament on Tuesday.

Members of Parliament on the minority side, National Democratic Congress (NDC), on Tuesday 5th February 2019 staged a walk out during the swearing in of Lydia Alhassan, the newly elected Member of Parliament for the Ayawaso West Wuogon constituency.

The 1st Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Joseph Osei Owusu, who has described the action of the minority as offensive, told Host of Atinka AM Drive, Ekourba Gyasi, that the minority in a leadership meeting earlier asked permission to stage a walk out later when parliament was in session.

He recalled that the minority had earlier mentioned at the leadership meeting that the walk-out had no connection with the swearing-in of the newly elected Member of Parliament for Ayawaso West Wuogon, Lydia Seyram Alhassan.

“Those of you who have watched the video can attest to the fact that Muntaka on the floor of Parliament asked permission to walk out of parliament over what they described as issues they had with security," He added.

According to the 1st Deputy Speaker of Parliament, it came as a surprise when the minority displayed placards with the inscription “bloody widow” on their way out of parliament. “The action is totally unacceptable and wrong”, he said.

Lydia Seyram Alhassan was elected Member of Parliament for the Ayawaso West Wuogon Constituency in a by-election after the demise of the late Member of Parliament, Emmanuel Kyeremanteng Agyarko.
