Jean Mensah, Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC), has addressed concerns regarding missing Biometric Voter Registration (BVR) devices and their potential impact on the upcoming 2024 elections.

Responding to queries from Minority Leader, Dr. Ato Forson, Mensah reassured lawmakers that the absence of five laptops, discovered missing during routine meetings, would not compromise the integrity of the electoral process.

Hon. Ato Forson raised the issue, emphasizing its significance for the nation’s future, prompting Jean Mensa to clarify the EC’s actions in response to the incident.

The EC boss acknowledged the loss but emphasized that stringent security measures had been implemented to prevent such occurrences in the future.

She underscored that even in the event of theft, the missing laptops could not be used to manipulate voter registration or election results.

Mensah further elaborated on the EC’s operational transparency, highlighting that detailed plans for registration centers were shared well in advance with political parties and stakeholders.
She affirmed that these measures ensured that any irregularities during the registration or voting processes could be swiftly identified and addressed by all parties involved.

“We run a transparent system,” the EC chair stated firmly, “making it difficult for any individual or group to exploit the electoral process.”

I EC Chairperson’s assurances to Parliament aimed to allay concerns over the missing BVRs, emphasizing the robustness of Ghana’s electoral systems and the EC’s commitment to conducting free, fair, and transparent elections come December 7, 2024.
