My Arteries blocked after recovery – Covid-19 patient reveals (Audio)

Prosper Senyo Sokpe, a lab technician who has recovered from the deadly coronavirus, says he is currently undergoing treatment after he was told his arteries were blocked after recovery.

The young man, who contracted the virus in his line of duty at the Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research (NMIMR), says his health has deteriorated after recovering from the virus.

In an interview with host of Atinka FM’s AM Drive Ekourba Gyasi, Prosper Senyo Sokpe, explained that although he has fully recovered from the virus he has difficulty covering long walking distances.

“ I have recovered, but I have been told that my arteries are blocked as a result of the virus and so I still go for review. I have never been fit after contracting the virus and so I am still on medication. I am, however, optimistic that I will be fine”, he added.

Meanwhile, the General Secretary for the Ghana Medical Association (GMA), Dr. Justice Yankson, says the country needs swift  measures to help fight the virus considering the damage it is causing.

He explained that although the President in his 22nd Covid-19 update address stated that the country records over 200 cases daily on the average, the number has multiplied with over 600 cases of the virus being recorded daily.

“The situation is dire and alarming! With the first wave, we were recording mild and asymptomatic cases, but the second wave is not like that. Almost all patients reporting to the health facilities are either severely or critically ill, unlike before and we are finding it difficult to admit them because our ICUs are almost full. It will be prudent for the masses to be cautious and continue to adhere to the preventive measures,” he added.

He reiterated that Ghana runs a greater risk of recording mass cases if people still continue to disregard adherence to the safety protocols to help fight covid-19.

He also called on the government to enhance  the laid down Covid-19 safety protocols  as  quite a number of people have stopped adhering to the safety precautions disregarding the fact that the virus is still in the country.

The country has recorded 616 new cases of the coronavirus bringing the total number of active cases to 3,813 as at Wednesday 27th January 2021.

The death toll is pegged at 377.
