The leadership of the National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT) has called on the Ghana Education Service (GES) to allow members who are technologically inclined to use technology-based preparation methods in teaching students.
This appeal came up when NAGRAT met to reject plans by the Ministry of Education (MoE) to appoint head teachers for schools in Ghana.
Speaking at a press conference in Accra on Thursday February 17, President of NAGRAT, Angel Carbonu said there are more issues in the educational sector that must be addressed.
“One of them is the decision by the Ministry of Education to appoint headmasters and headmistresses and they are starting with STEM schools but the Ministry has no power to appoint headmasters or headmistress,” he added.

In an interview with host of Atinka FM’s AM Drive, Kaakyire Ofori Ayim, Vice President for NAGRAT, Jacob Anaba also bemoaned the actions of non-IT inclined head teachers who compel teachers to use manual lesson notes in teaching.
Jacob Anaba called for the mode of lesson notes preparations to shift from manual preparation to technology-based preparation where teachers would be given the opportunity to use the computer to effect their lesson notes preparation.
He also called on all members nationwide who have the knowledge and application of internet technology to prepare their lesson notes with the use of technology, adding that the union will resist anyone who attempts to put obstacles in the way of any NAGRAT member who would decide to prepare his or her lesson notes with the use of technology.
“It has come to our notice that some head of schools and directors who are not IT compliance are preventing teachers from using the computer in preparing lesson notes, we will not tolerate that so we are supporting our members who are IT compliance to use IT in preparing lesson notes to enhance teaching and learning in our schools,” Jacob Anaba told Kaakyire Ofori Ayim.
