NDC protests would have degenerated if …- Francis Sosu

Member of Parliament Elect and member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) legal team, Lawyer Francis Xavier Sosu, says the ongoing protests by aggrieved members of the party would have degenerated into serious chaos if leadership of the party had not been proactive.

This follows the arrest of 26 persons, 15 males and 11 females by the Accra Regional Police Command for unlawfully demonstrating at the Electoral Commission (EC) Headquarters in Accra.

The protestors, in the early hours of Thursday, 17th December, 2020, thronged major streets leading to the Electoral Commission, amidst the burning of car tyres, pelting stones and causing heavy vehicular traffic and congestion.

The Police, however, managed to disperse the crowd using a non-lethal riot control management approach and arrested twenty-six (26) protestors in the process.

In the Bono East Region, Supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC)  took to the streets of the regional capital, Techiman, to protest over the outcome of the 2020 general election.

This forms part of the series of demonstrations by the party across the regions to draw the attention of the Electoral Commission to what they have termed as a flawed election.

Speaking on Atinka FM’s AM Drive with host Ekourba Gyasi, Lawyer Francis Xavier Sosu noted that it is a tedious job containing a political base which feel aggrieved.

According to him, the protest is a constitutional right that every displeased Ghanaian can legitimately take up to.

“I can assure you that things would have degenerated into serious chaos if leadership had not been proactive. Because leadership has seriously been proactive. You see, it takes a lot to contain a political base which feels aggrieved. A lot has been going on and I have been on several platforms and in several meetings where to have calm tempers nerves and trying to let them know that the system will work”, he said.
