NIB, Tobinco Group donate to GJA    

 

The Tobinco Group on Monday donated a cheque of GH200, 000 towards the organization of the 23rd Ghana Journalists (GJA) Awards Night to be held at the Kempinski Gold Coast Hotel on Saturday, 27th October 2018.

The Group Managing Director of the company, Reverend Dr. Enoch Ayi Arthur, made the donation at a short ceremony at the Accra International Press Center.

Dr. Ayi Arthur explained that his company recognizes and acknowledges the role of the media in promoting products and services of the Tobinco Group and other corporate bodies hence the donation.

He gave the assurance that the company will continue to support Ghanaian journalists in diverse ways.

The Tobinco Group headed by renowned entrepreneur, Elder Samuel Amo Tobbin, comprises Atinka Media Village (Atinka FM, Atinka TV, Atinkaonline, Agyekwa FM and Ahotor), Abii National, Priority Insurance, Top Blues, Entrance Pharmaceutical and Research, Entrance University College, Entrance University College, Tobinco Foundation and Tobinco Foods.

  

In another development, one of the leading indigenous banks in Ghana, National Investment Bank (NIB) has donated a cheque of GHC 100,000 to Ghana Journalist Association in support of Saturday’s event.
 
The General Manager in charge of Operations and Technology, Evans Amartey, said journalists are key cornerstone as far as nation-building is concerned. 
He further urged the country to encourage journalists to attain higher standards in order to rock shoulders with those outside the country.

He added that NIB will continue to sponsor the media to attain higher standards in their profession.

President of GJA, Dr. Affail Monney said the vibrancy of the media helps the country to develop.

He said NIB has every right to turn their backs on GJA as there have been issues of banks collapsing almost every day and therefore commended the financial firm for taking a bold decision to support this year’s awards 

The theme for this year’s event is: “State of Investigative Journalism, Boundaries of Privacy and Borders of Public Interest.”  Her Ladyship, Sophia Akuffo, Chief Justice of the Republic of Ghana, will be the Special Guest of Honour.

In addition to awarding deserving journalists, the GJA will also confer Honorary Membership on distinguished members of society who have played various roles in ensuring media development and creating employment.  The Group Chairman of the Tobinco Group, which has Atinka Media Village as a subsidiary, Elder Samuel Amo Tobbin will be honoured. The CEO of Multimedia Group, Kwesi Twum, Group Chairman of the Despite Group of companies, Osei Kwame Despite and other personalities will also receive Honorary Membership.   

 Article 4 Clause D (I) of the GJA constitution states: “The National Council may confer Honorary Membership on individuals who are not ordinarily qualified for membership under the preceding clauses, but who have shown exemplary interest in the Association, and\or have contributed substantially to the development of the Media”.
