The former Vice President and aspiring flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has embarked on a two-day campaign tour of the Central Region as he intensifies efforts to secure the support of party delegates ahead of the party’s upcoming primaries.
Dr Bawumia’s tour attracted several prominent figures within the party, including former Majority Leader and Suame MP, Hon. Kyei Mensah-Bonsu; former Mfantseman MP, Hon. Ophelia Mensah Hayford; former Central Regional Minister, Hon. Justina Marigold Assan; and former Transport Minister, Hon. Kwaku Ofori Asiamah, among others.
Addressing delegates and regional executives in Cape Coast, the former Vice President emphasised his longstanding loyalty and contributions to the party, recalling the pivotal role he played in the NPP’s 2016 electoral victory after eight years in opposition.
He urged party members to entrust him with their mandate, assuring them of his readiness to lead the NPP into the 2028 general elections.
Dr Bawumia further stressed that the flagbearership contest should not be reduced to wealth or financial influence but should instead focus on visionary leadership and sustainable policies.
He argued that his ideas and track record place him ahead of his competitors in providing the solutions needed to move Ghana forward.
