NPP Primaries: Kennedy Agyapong Leads NPP Poll with 53.8% – Researcher Dr. Evans Duah

NPP Primaries

Former Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, is currently leading the race to become the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) presidential candidate, according to new polling data presented by researcher Dr. Evans Duah.

The poll, conducted between September 22 and October 5, 2025, sampled over 26,000 delegates out of a total of 204,893. It shows Agyapong ahead in both the worst-case (realistic) and best-case (projected) scenarios.

In the worst-case, Agyapong gets 44.11%, while his main rival, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, follows with 39.51%. In the best-case, Agyapong reaches 53.80%, crossing the 50%+1 mark needed to avoid a runoff.

Dr. Duah explained that the best-case projections consider undecided and silent voters, as well as second-choice preferences. “This is not a prediction, just a snapshot of where things stand,” he said.

Regionally, Agyapong leads in major vote-rich areas like Ashanti and Greater Accra, while Bawumia remains strong in Northern and North East. Agyapong is currently projected to lead in 11 out of 16 regions.

While other candidates—Dr. Bryan Acheampong, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, and Kwabena Agyeyi Agyapong—are gaining small amounts of support, the race remains clearly between Agyapong and Bawumia.

Dr. Duah concluded that Agyapong has the momentum, but with months left before the January primaries, “anything can still change.”
