NPP Primaries: “I’m not contesting the incumbent MP”-Ahanta West MCE

Municipal Chief Executive of Ahanta West Municipal Assembly, Hon. Henrietta Mary Eyison has denied reports that, she intends to contest the incumbent Member Parliament in the upcoming New Patriotic Party (NPP`) parliamentary elections.
“I don’t have any ambition to become Member of Parliament because I really want to focus mainly on my current position to serve my people. I may be fired by the President if I flout the laws of the party,” she said.
Responding to media reports about her alleged intention to contest the sitting MP in an interview on Ogya FM, a local based radio station in Ahanta West monitored by Atinkaonilne, Madam Eyison said, “the whole of Agona-Nkwanta wouldn’t contain you and I and even the President will sack me if I should make an attempt.
“Coming May will be exactly my three years of assuming office as the Municipal Chief Executive so automatically I don’t qualify to contest and per the party’s direction, MMDCEs who wish to contest an incumbent member of parliament should resign 3 years before making an attempt to contest” she told the host.
The governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) last year asked all Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) with parliamentary ambitions to resign their positions by the end of this year.
It will be recalled that, some MMDCEs during the tenure of President John Agyekum Kufuor in 2008 aggressively contested some sitting MPs, creating a situation where defeated aspirants went as independent candidates.
The cohesion in the party suffered, but the NPP has taken pre-emptive measures in order to avoid a repeat of what happened in the past.
Madam Eyison urged party supporters to ignore the rumour speculating in the media, adding that, she is not even ready to go into any contest to become the Member of Parliament.
