In an interview with Nana Yaw Fianko of Atinka FM’s AM Drive on Thursday, the Communication Director for Dr Bawumia’s Campaign team, Miracles Aboagye stated emphatically that the National Council of Elders of the party has not received any name regarding the choice of running mate from the office of the vice president, therefore, reports suggesting the submission of the current energy minister’s name as the running mate should be treated as just mere rumours.
He further explained that the only constitutional body responsible for the confirmation of a running mate, according to the provisions of the New Patriotic Party’s constitution is the National Council of the party.
“Bawumia cannot bypass the National Council of the party to name a running mate according to the party’s Constitution,” he said.
For some months now, several names have popped up on the list of potential running mates for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia going into the 2024 presidential elections with the name of the current energy minister standing tall according to several surveys.
The most recent survey conducted by the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) indicated that the Energy Minister, Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh was widely preferred among party members to be the running mate to the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
