O’Reilly SHS: Suspect charged with murder; remanded for two weeks

The suspect in the death of a final-year student of O’Reilly Senior High School has been remanded in police custody for two weeks.

The La District Court has ordered that Godwin, 18, who faces a murder charge, remain in custody following an incident where he allegedly stabbed a fellow student on Monday, September 2.

Godwin was apprehended on Tuesday, September 3, and appeared in court on Thursday, September 5. He is scheduled to return to court on September 19, 2024.

Edward lost his life after being repeatedly stabbed during a violent altercation with a classmate on the school grounds.

Eyewitnesses, including students who were present at the scene, reported that what started as a heated exchange of words between the two students quickly turned physical.

The situation escalated dramatically when weapons were drawn, resulting in Edward being fatally wounded.

In a desperate attempt to save his life, a group of students rushed off the school premises to find a taxi to transport Edward to the hospital.

Unfortunately, despite their courageous efforts, Edward succumbed to his injuries shortly after arriving at the hospital.

Enock Sackey, father of the deceased, is calling for swift justice following his son’s tragic demise.

Speaking on Atinka FM’s Mr. Enock Sackey expressed his deep disappointment with the school authorities, criticizing what he described as a blatant disregard for human life.

He revealed that the management of O’Reilly SHS is yet to reach out to him following his son’s tragic death.

Reflecting on his son’s behavior, Mr. Sackey stated, “My son has been in this school for three years, and never once have I been informed that he was involved in any fight. I am extremely disappointed. Teachers are like parents, responsible for taking care of our children while they are at school. Since my son started in form one, I have never been called to the school over any misbehavior. When my son is absent from class, the headmaster calls to check on him, but since this incident occurred, no one has reached out to me.”
