Chelsea REJECT Barcelona’s £50m player-plus cash bid for winger Willian

Chelsea have rejected Barcelona’s proposal of Malcom plus cash for Willian. The Stamford Bridge club want straight cash for the 30-year old who is interested in the move.

The Spanish side were willing to offer Brazilian winger Malcom plus cash for Willian who saw a proposed move to Barcelona fall through last year.

Malcom cost £38million from Bordeaux last summer but has failed to live up to his potential and is being courted by clubs across Europe.

Barcelona bought the 21-year-old after being rebuffed three times in their efforts to prise Willian from Chelsea.

Chelsea rejected offers going up to £65million in July but as Willian has turned 30 and has only 18 months left on contract, they could be tempted with a cash offer of £50million in this window.

Maurizio Sarri is eager to strengthen rather than lose too many key players but knows Chelsea want to lower the age of their squad.

Chelsea are loathe to let Callum Hudson-Odoi join Bayern Munich but 31-year-old Cesc Fabregas is primed to join Monaco and a big offer for Willian could prove tempting this time.

The skilful winger also has interest from China with Dalian Yifang prepared to offer him a lucrative deal to go there but Barcelona would be his dream move.

Las Vegas Police issue warrant to obtain Cristiano Ronaldo’s DNA

Police in Las Vegas has issued a warrant to obtain Christiano Ronaldo’s DNA after claims he raped a woman in the US city nine years ago.

Former school teacher Kathryn Mayorga claims that the Juventus forward raped her at his Las Vegas hotel room in June 2009 and since going public with her case this year, Ronaldo has faced intense scrutiny.

Police said in a statement that an official request has been submitted to Italian authorities for a DNA sample from the superstar player.

Earlier the Wall Street Journal reported that authorities want to check his DNA against that of some found on the dress of Ms. Mayorga.

The newspaper claims authorities have sent a warrant to the Italian courts in the hopes of being allowed to carry out the procedure.

It cites a ‘law-enforcement official with knowledge of the case’ who claims a key piece of evidence in the investigation is the dress.

After Ms Mayorga filed her civil lawsuit in September this year, Las Vegas police confirmed they had reopened their criminal investigation into the alleged sex assault.

Her lawyers have vowed to take the case all the way to the Supreme Court if needed.

Ronaldo has continuously refuted the allegations, despite a £287,000 hush-money payment to Ms Mayorga in 2010, saying that the sex was consensual.

Back in early October, Ronaldo – who had been silent until then, tweeted to say he firmly denied the claims.

‘I firmly deny the accusations being issued against me. Rape is an abominable crime that goes against everything that I am and believe in.

‘Keen as I may be to clear my name, I refuse to feed the media spectacle created by people seeking to promote themselves at my expense,’ he said.

He followed that tweet with a further message, saying that his ‘clear conscience’ will allow him to await the results of an investigation ‘with tranquility’.

At the beginning of October, it had been reported that Miss Mayorga had left the US and wanted to avoid the cameras due to her emotional state.

In a press conference given by her lawyer on October 3, Mr Stovall said that she had experienced a lot of problems following the alleged rape.

‘This is an individual who suffers from major depression and post-traumatic stress disorder.

‘She has a lot of problems attributable to the 2009 sexual assault and it’s been very difficult for her over the last eight or nine years.

‘In dealing with Ms Mayorga and her family we have been particularly careful and mindful of her emotional state.’

It was also reported that she had only signed the original ‘hush contract’, as she was scared of the repercussions of defying a celebrity such as Ronaldo.

‘The reason why I signed the contract in the first place (was) because I didn’t want my name out there.

‘It’s a pretty famous guy. So I’m terrified. I’m scared.’

During an interview in September, her mother Cheryl described how the alleged attack had changed her daughter.

‘It’s never left her. Every day, she lives it,’ she said.

‘There were times when she would call me and he would be on a billboard or whatever, and she would just completely disintegrate. Having to walk into a store to get a pint of milk, and you’ve got his picture everywhere.

‘He’s the soccer god that everybody thinks is just perfect and flawless. And she can’t even get out of bed some days.’

Earlier this week Jasmine Lennard vowed to assist the woman accusing alleged ex Cristiano Ronaldo of rape and reveal his ‘true nature’.

The lingerie model, 33, accused the Juventus star, 33, of asking her if she would like him to send naked photos of her to her father during a row.

She also tweeted unverified recordings she claims are Ronaldo being disparaging about women, gay people and British pop star Tulisa – but it is unclear whose voice can be heard on them.

But morning Ms Lennard’s Twitter account was closed and her bombshell claims deleted with it as Ronaldo’s team of lawyers said it ‘has been alerted’ to the series of ‘false and defamatory’ allegations made against the Portuguese footballer.

Ghana’s wing back, Kwadwo Asamoah, has been named in South Africa’s version of Africa’s Finest XI team of 2018.

Owusu Bempa visits Chief Imam to apologise

The founder and leader of the Glorious Word and Power Ministry, Rev Isaac Owusu Bempah has rendered an unqualified apology to the National Chief Imam, Sheikh Nuhu Sharabutu after predicting his death this year.

Rev. Owusu Bempa who visited the Chief Imam’s residence at Fadama in Accra with some elders of his church presented a ram to pacify the Islamic cleric.

In a brief speech, Owusu Bempah told the gathering that he had come to express gratitude to the peace-loving and fatherly Chief Imam for his timely intervention in the euphoria that followed his prophecy.

He said the visit was just the beginning of many further visits and asked for God’s blessings for him and all assembled.

He said the Chief Imam’s intervention showed him a man full of love for Ghana, and that without his call for peace, one could not have fathomed the aftermath.

In the company of Rev. Owusu Bempah was a former Minister of Health, Samuel Nuamah Donkor, who described himself as a father to Owusu Bempah, and two elders (Council members) of the Glorious Word and Power Ministry.

Mr. Nuamah Donkor said the two religions of Christianity and Islam have co-existed peacefully in Ghana, a trait profoundly anchored by the Chief Imam and that the Islamic leader was even more enchanting in a televised message calling for peace.

He said gratitude is deserving of those who do good things and the Chief Imam deserved all the gratitude, capping it in the Twi adage, “Sɛ onipa yɛ adeɛ a, ɔsɛ ayɛyie.”

The Chair of the Chief Imam’s Advisory Board, Gado Mohammed thanked the pastor for showing interest in maintaining the peace that has long existed between the two faiths.

“Muslims and Christians all have faith in God that is why they are referred to as faith people…the peace that we have had in this country is not anything like others have had in many other countries.

“This is because the two faiths are at peace with each other and we should not take it for granted. We have worked for it,” he said.

Owusu Bempah did not visit the Chief Imam’s Fadama residence in Accra on Thursday empty-handed, he went with a cow to be given to the National Chief Imam as a thank you gesture.

The 31st night pronouncements saw some angry youths stormed the South Odorkor branch of the Glorious Word and Power Ministry, tearing down doors and windows, a billboard of Owusu Bempah and shattering glass windows.

They warned the prophet to apologise for denigrating the Chief Imam or be visited with worse.

The police have since announced the arrest of one of the leaders of the attackers whom they say they have granted bail.

We feel your pain but no taxpayers' money for you – Gov't to Menzgolders

The Akufo-Addo government will not use taxpayers’ money to pay clients whose investments have been locked up with gold-trading firm Menzgold Ghana Limited, a statement issued by Information Minister Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, has said.

Menzgold has been struggling to pay its tens of thousands of customers after it was asked to stop its gold vault market operations by the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) over regulatory infractions.

That order followed several cautions to the public to desist from engaging in business transactions with Menzgold by the Bank of Ghana as it said the gold dealership firm was not licensed to take deposits.

The aggrieved customers have held several demonstrations to pile pressure on the government to intervene so they could get their money. One of such recent demonstrations took place in Kumasi.

The government, in the statement said: “Menzgold was not licensed by BoG or SEC and its operations were not regulated by BoG or SEC. This warning was made as far back as April 2016, and, unfortunately, was disregarded by many customers of Menzgold. BoG and SEC are, therefore, not clothed with any legal mandate to refund monies to clients.

“In the case of banks and specialised deposit-taking institutions, as well as asset management companies licensed and regulated by BOG and SEC, owing to the fact that these companies were regulated by BoG and SEC, the regulators are clothed with the legal mandate to intervene in their matters, in accordance with law. DKM, for example, was licensed by the BoG, the reason for which it stepped in to help retrieve the monies of depositors. In the case of Menzgold, it operated as a trading company and falls outside the scope of the regulators’ intervention,” parts of the statement read.

It continued that “while the government sympathises with customers on the difficulties encountered in their transaction with the company, the State cannot and will not resort to the use of taxpayers’ monies to refund customers monies.

“The government wishes to inform the general public that the security agencies, having received reports from customers that they believe they have been defrauded by false pretences, shall employ all the powers of the State to find the accused persons, investigate the allegations, and ensure that the law takes its course in this matter.”
