Chereponi: Three die in renewed violent clashes

A violent clash that erupted between two ethnic groups at Nanduni, a farming community in the Chereponi District in the Northern Region on Monday night, December 31, 2018 has reportedly led to the death of three persons.

Several persons have sustained severe gunshots and machete wounds while a number of houses and property have been set ablaze.

It has emerged that the incident that has resulted in residents fleeing to neighbouring Togo for safety because of the fear of reprisal attacks, is a renewed dispute between the Konkonba and Chekosi ethnic groups over land.

Graphic Online is learning that some of the residents have also sought refuge at the palace of the Chereponi Chief.

I will not be caged by anybody – Sandra Ankobiah

Actress and Lawyer Sandra Ankobiah has gone hard on her critics for trying tell her how to live her life as a Lawyer.
Sandra seems tired of those who think they have moral rights to dictate to her how she should behave on Social media, how she should dress and even how she should walk and she’s not having any of it anymore.
If not for the existence of evidence that she’s a lawyer who has been called to the bar, most people do not see her as a lawyer mainly because of how she loves to live her life.
In an Instagram post she made on new year's eve, she asked her critics to allow her to live her life how she places because she has the rights to.
In the full post on IG, she wrote:
“I’m a lawyer by profession, a businesswoman, entrepreneur, and a host of other things by occupation. I’ve got diverse passions and hobbies. All these add up to make me Sandra Ankobiah. I will live the life that I love, Re: my best f*****g life.
I will not be caged by anybody. This is 2019, the 21st century, I’ll be whatever tf I want. If I want to be a lawyer, an architect, a plumber, a fashionista, a world traveler, a poet, a dancer, etc, I’ll be all of those things. Gtfoh with your opinions about how I should act as a lawyer. When you get a first degree in law, a masters in law, and you’re called to the Bar, (like I have), you can act how you think lawyers should act.
But as for me Sandra Ankobiah, I will continue to live my best f*****g life. The fact that you see me dress nicely etc, doesn’t take away the fact that I’m damn good at what I do, and any other thing/s I set my mind to.
I can do my job/s and at the same time rock an amazing outfit and go wherever I want or travel to any destination I want. I’m doing me, pls do you. Happy new year. May 2019 be good to us all”

Chelsea sign Borussia Dortmund forward for £58m

Chelsea have signed Borussia Dortmund forward Christian Pulisic for 64m euros (£58m), but will loan him back to the German club until the end of the season.
The 20-year-old United States international, who was
linked with Liverpool and Arsenal, joined Dortmund as a youth player in 2015.
Pulisic has scored nine goals in 23 games for the US.
"It's a privilege to have signed for such a legendary club," he said.
It is the highest transfer fee for an American player, beating the 20m euros Wolfsburg paid for John Brooks in 2017.
Dortmund director Michael Zorc said: "It was always Christian's dream to play in the Premier League.
"That certainly has to do with his American background, and as a result we were unable to extend his contract.
"Against this background, we have decided to accept an extremely lucrative bid by Chelsea, given the low contract maturity."
Pulisic's contract at Dortmund was due to expire in June 2020.

Media must stop giving 'Oxygen' to death prophecies on national leaders – Rev. Dr. Opuni Frimpong

Former General  Secretary of the Christian Council of Ghana, Rev. Dr. Opuni Frimpong has asked church leaders to 'pursue the discontinuation of death predictions on National leaders'.

He says the media especially must stop providing "oxygen to the death predictions for public decency and maturity of religious practices to thrive".

He further intimated in a statement that ministers of the gospel who understand the prophetic gifts and ministry must intensify Christian Education on the subject both in their congregations and other Media platforms.

"Christian Mutuality and Best Practices in matters of faith cannot be compromised…Like in other countries, I have not heard Churches/Pastors from South Korea, France, Germany, UK, Canada, USA etc frequently predicting or discussing the death of their leaders being it Political, Religious, Traditional, Entertainment etc in Public in the name of Prophecy.

The accumulated evidence of public decency and best practices of healthy relationships must inform the church/prophets on our Public dealings with others. The Church in Ghana must be of better example to others in the African Continent," he added.

‘Tell the Righteous it shall be well with them’. Isaiah 3:10

Church Leaders and Media must pursue dis-continuation of death predictions on National Leaders-
I have not heard Churches/Pastors from South Korea, France, Germany, UK, Canada, USA etc frequently predicting or discussing the death of their leaders being it Political, Religious, Traditional, Entertainment etc in Public in the name of Prophecy.
The accumulated evidence of public decency and best practices of healthy relationships must inform the church/prophets on our Public dealings with others. The annual pronouncements of death of national leaders has not being beneficial.
We must protect the healthy relationship between the church and public officials including church and Muslim relationships. May be this is the time the Media must stop providing Media Oxygen to the death predictions for public decency and maturity of Religious practices to thrive.
Political leaders who are affiliated to sources of such predictions will do the nation a lot of good if they can distance themselves from death predictions on others.
Moreover, Ministers of the Gospel who understand the prophetic gifts and ministry must intensify Christian Education on the subject both in their congregations and other Media platforms.
Christian Mutuality and Best Practices in matters of faith cannot be compromised. The Church in Ghana must be of better example to others in the African Continent.

10 signs social media is damaging your self-esteem

Social media has exploded an exponential amount over the past few years. But with the good comes the bad – and a big part of that bad is how social media negatively impacts our mental health. Here are some signs that your feed might be lowering your self-confidence.

1. You find yourself constantly comparing yourself to Insta girls and always find a flaw in yourself after you’re done scrolling through your feed. Remember social media is a careful curation of what people choose to filter out of their life.

2. It starts to take over your life. You’re always checking your phone, even if that’s doing quality unplugged time with family, bae or friends.

3. On a related note, in the vibrant moments of life where you should be embracing “carpe diem”, you’re focusing on the FOMO (fear of missing out) aspect that social media has made too prevalent. What you don’t realize is that you’re missing out on the actual good times right in front of your eyes.

4. Ever since you’ve starting obsessing over the ‘gram, you feel a larger sense of loneliness. Seeking validation from just social media isolates you and detaches you from your real life. If you feel lonely, don’t run to social media to help – it’ll worsen it.

5. You find yourself obsessing over likes, and equating them to your self-worth. If someone didn’t comment that you look like a snack, are you worthy? The answer is yes. Don’t look to social media to validate you – even the trolls attack A-list supermodels.

6. You find yourself trying to be anything but yourself. The world of IG makes us feel like we need to exist to impress others, editing out zits, adding filters, and editing captions for hours. Your true self is way prettier than the edited version, which just promotes a fear of sharing your authentic self.

7. You find that you’re turning more vain and shallow. Social media encourages us to only care about the surface things, and how we look versus what’s underneath. It can encourage a pretty shell and an empty inside without values, so remember that.

8. You struggle to define goals and feel less ambitious after you’ve logged on. Social media can disintegrate ambition by making you feel like you’ve accomplished less than those on your feed. You might be bogged down by other people’s aspirations and forget how to remember your own.

9. It’s starting to affect your body image and diet. Especially with all the fitness blogs and skinnies eating salad on IG, it’s hard to follow a balanced regime that’s right for you, and easy to fall into unhealthy cleanses and workout regime – just try to embrace your beautiful self.

10. The idea of not having your phone makes you have a pain attack. Unplugging is necessary for regaining perspective and thinking for yourself – after all, technology is a pretty recent addition to our world. Remember how our grandparents lived and practice phone breaks.

8 Unique New Year’s eve ideas for you and your best friends

Christmas is over and you’re kind of ready for winter to be over too. But there’s still New Year’s and most of us feel the pressure to do something big and special for the occasion of one year ending and the next one starting. This year we thought we’d give you some good suggestions on how to celebrate New Year’s so you don’t have to stress about it. Here you’ll find both fancy and very chill options, because the most important thing is to enjoy yourself, be it in bed in your pajamas or at the fanciest wildest party of the year.

1. Fireworks
This is a no brainer. Getting together with friends to watch the fireworks outside is always a good idea. Grab a bottle of champagne with you to pop at midnight and toast to the New Year. And since it’s a big event there will be lots of people doing the same thing, so it’s a great way to meet some new people and start the year by making new friends.

 2. Bar Crowl

In most cases, no matter how we celebrate it, we all end the year by getting phenomenally drunk and waking up thinking “that’s it, I’m never drinking again”. That’s what starts our list of New Year’s resolutions. So why resist it when you can make it a part of the plan. Just sign up for a local New Year’s bar crawl.

3. Glam Up
Getting all glammed up can be a lot of fun and New Year’s Eve is a great occasion for it. Get all dressed up with your friends and take a bunch of pictures and end the year in style. This is perfect for both a themed glam house party or a night out on the town.

4. Host A Dinner
Cooking a big meal with your friends can be a great way to spend New Year’s Eve. Open a bottle of wine, get talking while you all cook together and countdown to New Year’s while having a great home cooked meal.

5. Go On A Trip
Get your best friends and just get away for New Year’s. Find a good deal online and just go abroad. If you live in a warm climate – this is a great time to go to a snowy place, if you live in a colder climate – go and have a freaky New Year’s Even on the beach. It’ll be your most memorable New Year’s Eve, me promise.

6. Time Capsule
A very nice and low key think to do with your friends for New Year’s Eve is to create a time capsule. You can spend the night talking about what how this year has been, take little things that remind you of special events that happened in your life, put it all in a box and bury it in the backyard. Or you could interview each other about the most memorable things of the year and what you expect from the next year.

7. Movies
Did you know that cinemas actually work on New Year’s Eve? That’s right, you can celebrate in a very low key way by going to see a fun movie. Alternatively, host a movie marathon at home. Make microwave popcorn, order pizza, Chinese, have some drinks and watch your favorite movies all night.

8. Set Goals

If you want to do something both fun and productive for New Year’s Eve you can get together with your best friends and make a plan for what you want to achieve next year. Set goals, tell each other about your plans, write down resolutions. Go all out with the ambience and light some candles, burn some incense. Maybe do some fun rituals like writing your wishes on a piece of paper, lighting it on fire and dropping into your champagne as the clock strikes midnight.
