Instagram DMs come to the web

0

You’ll soon be able to slide into someone’s Instagram DMs right from your desktop.
As of Tuesday, Instagram began rolling out direct messages on the web for a small percentage of users, according to The Verge.
The rollout is part of a test, Instagram says, and information regarding a broader rollout will come at a later date.
Direct messaging on Instagram’s website will work the same it does through its mobile app.
Users will be able to partake in group DMs as well.
Direct messaging can be initiated from a user’s profile page or from the dedicated DM page, just as users would on the app.
Desktop notifications are also available for DMs if a user enables notifications for Instagram on their web browser.
Software engineer Jane Manchun Wong, who has perfected the art of reverse-engineering apps in order to uncover upcoming features, originally reported that Instagram was internally testing DMs on the web almost a year ago.
For a while, the only thing you could do on Instagram outside of the app was view a photo. Over the years, Instagram has changed that by rolling out more features.
Facebook, Instagram’s parent company, has been looking to integrate messaging from its various services: Facebook Messenger, WhatsApp, and Instagram.
Bringing Instagram DMs to the web seems like another push in that direction.

10 things guys won’t tell you, but you should know them

0

Men are not the best communicators, especially, when it comes to the slightly embarrassing things about themselves that they want to tell their partner, but just can’t. They’re fine when it comes to boasting about their prowess on the sports field or discussing cars, but when it comes to some of the more personal topics, they get all shy and coy. So to help the guys out, here are the top ten things that they would like to tell you about themselves:
1. Be naughty, but don’t go too far
Most men like a little bit of adventure in the bedroom, but are often too embarrassed to ask you about trying new things. Take the lead a little and widen your bedroom repertoire, but don’t go too far, too quick, or you might just embarrass him.
2. He just can’t read minds like you can
Call it what you like: feminine intuition, empathy or mind reading, men just don’t have that same ability. He’d love to be able to gauge your moods better, but he just can’t! So, don’t get upset when he can’t figure out what you want, instead, just plain and simple, tell him clearly what’s on your mind.
3. He craves respect, as much as he does love
Basically, most men are on one long ego trip! He wants your love and affection, but that’s as important to a man, as it is too a woman, what he needs is your respect and even admiration, so don’t forget to pat him on the back, when he does something right.
4. He wishes that you’d appreciate his reliability
Men have different priorities in life, so when your man is one who always turns up on time, even for the things that he’d rather not be doing, he’d really like to be appreciated for it. A simple ‘thanks for coming shopping with me’ wouldn’t go amiss!
5. You need to tell him if he’s doing it wrong in bed
A man assumes that all is going well for both of you in the bedroom, if you don’t tell him otherwise. After all, his technique always works for him! He would be devastated to find, that after years of being together, he’s been getting wrong all that time, so he won’t mind a little gentle guidance from you.
6. Men need contestant affirmation
Most men are essentially very insecure, especially about their relationships. In everything else in life, they get feedback. Whether that’s a pay rise at work, so they know they are doing a good job, or a result on the sports field but, in love, they don’t know if they’re doing things right, unless you tell them.
7. Men love your femininity
Cuddly toys and pink pyjamas may not be his thing, but he loves you for it all the same. Don’t try and man up for him, it’s all your little girlie traits that he loves so much, your feminine charm and gentle spirit is what turns him on (in a good sense).
8. He doesn’t like it if you have too much to drink
It’s a fact. Men will laugh at a friend who has one too many and will think nothing of it, if they do it themselves, but nearly all men dislike seeing any woman drunk, especially you!
9. Men wish that people would understand that a father is just as important, as a mother
A big complaint of men, and one that they often talk to one another about, is that most people seem to think the mother is more important to a child, than the father. Not true, we know, but he doesn’t like to feel that he is any less essential to a child’s upbringing, than you are. So make sure to show him his importance and significance to reassure him.
0. Men look at other women, they just do!
No matter how much he is in love with you and would never stray, how much he is faithful and loyal, but you will never stop him from looking at other women (and we don’t mean cheating, just looking). If your man has stopped, then check his pulse quick! ?

Clarification: Ghana will conduct its 6th Population and Housing Census in 2020

0

Recently there have been conflicting statements on various media regarding the approved date of Ghana’s forthcoming 6th post independence Population and Housing Census.
The Ghana Statistical Services (GSS), the institution responsible for its implementation, wishes to clarify that the Census will be conducted this year (2020).
As the Government Statistician indicated during the release of the December 2019 Consumer  Price Index and Inflation Rates on 8th January 2020, the Census which was originally scheduled for March 2020 is likely to be moved forward by a couple of months.
This change in date is being anticipated following observations from the completed field census mapping exercise, which has engendered the need to redesign technological interventions required for complete coverage, enhanced accuracy and timely release of the census results.
To this end, GSS urges its stakeholders, media and the general public to maintain positive engagement and participation in the preparation and implementation of the 2020 census activities, including sharing of the right information.
The Census date will soon be announced to the general public once approved by the National Census Steering Committee.

PPP sympathises with families of Dompoase and Kumasi accident

0
The Progressive People’s Party (PPP) has extended its condolences to families who lost their loved ones through the Dompoase accident which occurred on the Elmina-Takoradi Highway on January 14, 2020 and the Kumasi Abrepo Highway, on 15th January, 2020….
It also expressed sympathy to those who were injured as a result of the accidents which saw about 40 persons perish.

In a statement by the Party, the PPP noted that Ghanaians traveling by road and never returning home, leaving behind shattered families, hundreds of people spending months and years in hospital after terrible accidents and many not being able to return to their normal life, are critical public health problems and development crisis which must not be side stepped by any government.
Available information from the World Health Organization and the World Bank indicates that road traffic injuries alone cost Ghana 1.5% of our gross national product, which is more than the total development aid we receive.

“We are challenging the government to declare war on corruption, which contributes directly and indirectly to the unacceptably high levels of road traffic accidents in our country,” the PPP added.
Below is a statement by PPP:
ACT ON ROAD ACCIDENTS NOW! – PPP*
The Progressive People’s Party wishes to extend its heartfelt condolences to the families, who have lost their loved ones, and sympathy to those who have been injured following the tragic road accidents at Dompoase on the Elmina-Takoradi Highway on 14th January, 2020 and the Kumasi Abrepo Highway, on 15th January, 2020. We wish to thank all the emergency service providers and individuals involved in assisting the victims.
Ghanaians traveling by road and never returning home, leaving behind shattered families, hundreds of people spending months and years in hospital after terrible accidents and many not being able to return to their normal life, are critical public health problems and development crisis which must not be side stepped by any government.
Available information from the World Health Organization and the World Bank indicates that road traffic injuries alone cost Ghana 1.5% of our gross national product, which is more than the total development aid we receive.
We are challenging the government to declare war on corruption, which contributes directly and indirectly to the unacceptably high levels of road traffic accidents in our country.
As a party, we are committed to dealing with the corruption of these problems. State institutions such as the DVLA, NRSC, MTTD, Highways Authority and others must be strengthened in the enforcement of legislation to control speed and alcohol consumption, mandating the use of seatbelts, crash helmets, and the safer design and use of roads and vehicles.
Having ambulances to transport patients to medical facilities is helpful but studies have shown, that the primary factor in reducing mortality from trauma is not the speed of transportation but the administration of life-saving care prior to arrival at the hospital.
Important aspects in addressing mortality on our roads which a PPP government will explore are the towing of unsafe vehicles from our roads with a sense of urgency and the construction of inter-regional highways.
We recommend that Road traffic injury prevention must be integrated into the development and management of road infrastructure, the provision and inspection of safer vehicles, law enforcement, mobility planning, the provision of health and hospital services, child welfare services, urban and environmental Planning.
A PPP government will ensure that, by the end of our first term in office, every town and village will have at least one licensed Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) within 5-10 miles that will be on call every day of every year.
We will reward commercial vehicle drivers who become certified in basic first aid and crash scene management with an incentive such as quarterly payments of GHc300, disbursed into their bank accounts.
With the implementation of the National Identification System, we will ensure that reckless drivers are not given the opportunity and license to repeat their expensive mistakes.
In as much as we agree that human error contributes greatly to such fatalities on our roads, the spiritual aspect cannot be down played. We therefore appeal to Leaders of Religious institutions to encourage their members to fast and pray against such incidents.
Whiles we believe that attitudinal change is the most desired answer, so do we accept as true, that leadership is an action, not a position and the only safe ship in a storm is leadership.

“LPG will win 2020 elections” – Kofi Akpalo

0

The Founder and Leader of the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG), Kofi Akpaloo, says he is optimistic that his party will emerge winner in the impending 2020 general elections.
The Electoral Commission (EC) requested over GHS400m for the compilation of a new voters’ register for the 2020 general election.
The call for a new voters’ has generated a heated debate among the major political parties in Ghana. The ruling NPP supports the call while the leading opposition party, the NDC is totally against it.
Kofi Akpaloo made this comment after host of Atinka FM’s AM Drive, Ekourba Gyasi, asked how prepared the LPG is for the 2020 general elections.
He explained that his victory in the 2020 is not negotiable and that he is working assiduously towards capturing power from the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP).
“2020 is the year that the mantle will be handed over to Akpalo and the LPG to lead Ghana for the next four years and so we are much focused and we are working towards that. Our victory is non-negotiable. I will be president in 2020, there’s no doubt about it.” He added.
Kofi Akpaloo revealed that the party has a well-planned mechanism which will capture power for the LPG in the elections.
Commenting on the compilation of a new voters register by the Electoral Commission, Kofi Akpalo who is the spokesperson for persons who support the EC’s agenda noted that the old register is corrupted hence the need for a new one.
“I will win the 2020 elections and I want to win the elections genuinely. I don’t trust the current register and I believe a new one will give us free and fair elections,” he said.
Meanwhile a statement by the EC’s Eminent Advisory committee hinted a meeting between the EC, Eminent Advisory committee and the Inter Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) to have further discussions on the EC’s call for a new register.
“Meanwhile the Eminent Advisory Committee calls for calm from all Political Parties and other stakeholders as they work in the national interest,” the statement added.

Former President John Mahama has promised to build technical and vocational universities in all the six new regions if he wins the 2020 election.
Speaking at the launch of digital platforms for donations to the party’s campaign, he said he will build and operationalise new public universities which will have campuses in each of the six new regions.
The new universities will focus on Technical, Vocational and engineering programmes.
He added that, the purpose of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) is to equip people with the technical and professional skills needed for socioeconomic and industrial development of the country.
“Our TVET programs has been well considered to address two main challenges , the first to fix the imbalance and the gap that exists  between top and bottom manpower requirement especially those with technical skills. It is designed to produce young people with cutting-edge technical knowledge which we are need of in many sectors of  our economy  including our oil and gas sector.  The second challenge is  to tackle the worsening unemployment situation by providing  our young people with the requisite skills that enable them to be self-employment instead of only relying on government,” Mahama added.

GHS vaccinates 579,740 children in three-day exercise

0
A total of 579,740 children under five years have been vaccinated in a three-day exercise organised by the Ghana Health Service (GHS) to contain the outbreak of poliomyelitis in the Bono, Ahafo and Bono East regions of the country.

The figure exceeds the GHS target of 570,864 under-five children it was expecting to vaccinate in the three regions.
The Deputy Bono Regional Director of Health Services in-charge of Public Health, Dr John Ekow Otoo, attributed the success to cooperation from the public, as well as the various strategies the GHS had in place. In an interview with the Daily Graphic, Dr Otoo explained that officials of the GHS made sure to vaccinate all children who were found with their parents, be they at the market, funeral ceremony, church convention or travelling.
He said even though the exercise took place from January 8 to 11, a mop-up exercise was further conducted on January 12 and 13 in order to make sure that no child was left out.
Second round
Dr Otoo said the GHS had scheduled the second round of polio vaccination for February 5 and 6.
“In order for children to receive the full benefit from the exercise, they have to get two dosages of the polio vaccine, thus necessitating that a second round of the polio vaccination exercise be conducted.
The Deputy Bono Regional Director of Health Services in-charge of Public Health, therefore, encouraged parents not to get complacent and think that their children had been vaccinated already, but instead ensure that the children were vaccinated again in the second round in order to get them fully protected against the disease.
Background
Poliomyelitis is a highly infectious viral disease that affects young children.
It is transmitted from person to person mainly through the faecal-oral route.
Initial symptoms of the disease include fever, fatigue, headache, vomiting, stiffness in the neck and pain in the limbs.
