“Great Days Lie Ahead Of Dagbon” – President Akufo-Addo To Yaa-Na

0
The President of the Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, says the Overlord of Dagbon, Yaa-Na Mahama Abukari II, has, over the course of his enskinment nearly a year ago, proven to be a man of experience and dignity, and has discharged his duties with distinction so far.
President Akufo-Addo made this known on Thursday, 16th January, 2020, when Yaa-Na Mahama Abukari II paid a visit to Jubilee House, the seat of the nation’s presidency, to thank for his efforts at bringing lasting peace to Dagbon.
Addressing the gathering, the President stated that the policies and programmes being implemented by Government will guarantee greater days ahead for Dagbon under the new Yaa-Na.
“With Government determined to exploit and add value to the iron ore deposits at Sheini, to finish the 2nd Phase of the Tamale Airport project, to construct the Tamale Interchange, the first of its kind in the northern sector of the country, to see to the imminent completion of the Tamale Teaching Hospital, to upgrade the Yendi Government Hospital to a befitting status, to promote the sustainable development of agriculture in the area, and, soon, to commence the Yendi Water Project, it is evident that great days lie ahead for Dagbon under the stewardship of Yaa-Na Mahama Abukari II,” he added.
President Akufo-Addo, however, noted that fruits these developments can only be appreciated by the people of Dagbon if the peace being enjoyed there is nurtured and maintained, “and if chieftaincy disputes are not allowed to become a part of the fabric of the great state of Dagbon nor of any part of our country. Development can never take place in an atmosphere of chaos and confusion.”
The President stated that the process of enskinning him, and, thereby, finding a permanent solution to the crisis in Dagbon, was made possible largely by the work undertaken by the Committee of Eminent Chiefs, chaired by the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Nayiri, Naa Bohugu Abdulai Mahami Sheriga, and the Overlord of Gonja, the Yagbonwura, Tuntumba Boresa Sulemana Jakpa, with the work of the Committee having the strong support of Government.
He thanked the Committee of Eminent Chiefs for not giving up on the people of Dagbon, even when, at times, the situation seemed hopeless, adding that “their display of tenacity, statesmanship and patriotism is worthy of emulation by all, and I am certain that posterity will continue to applaud their efforts.”
With the visit of Yaa-Na Mahama Abukari II being the first by a sitting Yaa-Na to the seat of the Ghanaian presidency in many decades, President described it as “moment I will always treasure, just as I will always cherish, with gratitude, the title, Dagbon Malti Naa Abudani I, that you so generously bestowed on me for my modest efforts in helping to restore unity and solidarity to Dagbon.”
President Akufo-Addo reiterated his commitment to do everything in his power, so long as he is President, to assist the Yaa-Na to administer Dagbon in an atmosphere of peace, serenity and tranquility.
“You deserve the support of all well-meaning Dagombas, and, indeed, all Ghanaians, for your efforts to rebuild this ancient kingdom,” he added.

Engage the youth in decision-making processes to engender development -Gov't told

0
The Executive Director of Human Rights Reporters Ghana (HRRG), Joseph Kobla Wemakor has charged government to help identify the youth as agents of change and endeavor to engage them always in decision-making processes right from the idea generation to the implementation stage to bring about the needed development in the country.
According to him, the youth have been left behind for far too long despite their enormous inherent potentials and its about time they are focused on to cause the needed developmental change to happen.
He also called for the youth activists who are doing amazing things in their unique ways to be identified and recognized in order to help build their confidence so as to continue to contribute their quota to positively impact the society.
Mr. Wemakor made these assertions while responding to a question: “how  can the young people be better empowered to know and claim their rights and be heard”?, on a program “Reporter’s Round Table” hosted by Rebecca Awuah.
The program which aired on Ghana Television on Wednesday December 12, 2019 on the theme: “The role of young people in Human Rights Activism”, brought together two other panelists to share their perspectives on issues confronting the youth in order to help chart a common front   and better position them to deliver as activists.
Mad. Grace Gyamfi, a staff of the  Commonwealth Human Rights Initiative (CHRI), one of the panelists believes constant education of the  youth is key in helping them deliver meaningfully on their activism roles.
“It’s all about education, educating them not only in the classrooms, at church, in the house and elsewhere  they can be reached so as to be empowered to speak up for the people whose rights are being violated.”
For her part, Nuong Faalong, a journalist cum gender activist, said there should be a proper mentorship and collaboration between activists who are already on the top and the upcoming ones leading to the identification and nurturing of skills so as to well position the latter to deliver as expected.
“I  also think there should be a safe spaces where people can come together and interact; listen, engage, encourage and redirect the energies that you find are damaging and at the end of the day, these are ways to encouraging the youth to positively use their energies in activism to the benefit of all”.
Youth activism has reached the crescendo in recent times with many youth activists at the forefront of social change across the globe.
In recent years, helped by the connective power of social media, the world has witnessed the growing force of young people fighting for and defending their rights and shaping their communities.
Currently, at the core of youth activism globally lies Greta Thundberg, Nadia Murad, Autumn Peltier, Leah Namugerwa, Ridhima Pandey, Xiye Bastida and Isra Hirsi including hosts of other youth activists who are shaping the world they want despite  intimidation, torture and other gross human rights abuses that stare them in face.

Angry Judge issues arrest warrant for Kelvin Taylor

0

Commercial High Court presided over by Justice Eric Kyei Baffour, has issued an arrest warrant directed at the Inspector General of Police (IGP), the National Security and the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI), to arrest social media commentator, Kelvin Taylor.
He’s to be presented in court to answer why he should not be committed to jail for his derogatory comments about him, Justice Eric Kyei Baffour.
In a recent episode of his social media video reportage called “With All Due Respect” and dubbed the “The Men in Red, Tainted Judiciary”, Kelvin Taylor, picked on the Court of Appeal Judge, Justice Eric Kyei Baffour, and made several allegations against him.
“Today I will tell you about the men in red, yes, the men in red and how some of them have been compromised,” Kelvin Taylor said in his introduction in the said video.
Kelvin Taylor further indicated in his video that among the recent High Court Justices who were promoted to the Court of Appeal, Justice Eric Kyei Baffour, has been penned down by members of the ruling government to be used as the conduit to prosecute former government officials.
He called on the new Chief Justice, Justice Anin Yeboah to investigate the Court of Appeal Judge failing which he will release audio tapes in his custody bordering on meetings the Court of Appeal Judge has had with high ranking officials of the Akufo-Addo led administration.
The social media commentator further zeroed in on a case before Justice Eric Kyei Baffour entitled the “Republic versus Eugene Baffoe-Bonnie and four others” indicating that he is deliberately twisting the law as far as proceedings, in that case, is concerned to favour the current NPP administration.
“Justice Eric Kyei Baffour was hurriedly promoted from a High Court Judge to a Court of Appeal Judge. I can say on authority that Justice Kyei Baffour is operating on the orders of President Akufo-Addo and the National Security Minister Kan Dapaah. This is why the case of the former NCA board members was jumped straight to the Commercial Court to Kyei Baffour so that he will execute government agenda. This is basic. With all due respect, my fellow Ghanaians, Justice Kyei Baffour is seriously doing the bidding of the President and more importantly the bidding of the National Security Minister, Mr. Kan Dapaah,” Kelvin Taylor said.
Kelvin Taylor also alleged that the Court of Appeal Judge, Justice Eric Kyei Baffour, has recently built a mansion in Accra that has become the talk of the town.
“Justice Kyei Baffour has become too powerful and too rich in this short time. He recently built one of the most expensive mansions in Accra which in fact has become the talk in the corridors of the Justice department” Taylor said.
Justice Eric Kyei Baffour in issuing the arrest warrant said the warrant will hold until Kelvin Taylor is arrested and presented to his Court or until he longer exists on planet earth.

Photos: "Legon girls" fill Accra Sports Stadium during Legon Cities’ game

The beauty of football took center stage at the Accra Sports Stadium Wednesday when Legon Cities hosted Ashanti Gold in Matchday 4 of the Ghana Premier League.
The Spectators couldn’t hold to their seat when Hiplife artiste, Emmanuel Kwesi Danso Arthur Junior, known in music circles as Kwesi Arthur, stormed the stadium with some mega performances in the “Ladies Night” Segment, created by the Club’s Management to #BringBackTheLove of Ghana Football.
The Presence of Kwesi Arthur attracted many beautiful ladies from Accra and other parts of the country, with the majority of them who spoke with Atinkaonline describing themselves as “Legon Girls.”
Some spectators said they came to watch the game because of Kwesi Arthur. “He is my crush, one spectator told,” told Atinkaonline.
A young millionaire based in East Legon, FOD, spiced up the occasion by showering some countless notes of GH¢5 on the crowd. This nearly resulted in a stampede as fans bulldozed their way to grab the cash. It took the intervention of the Police to peacefully escort him (FOD) to the VIP section of the stadium.
The Match ended 0:0.
The Royals, who are currently placed 13 on the league table are yet to record a win.
Their next home game is on Jan 24, 2020, at 6:00 PM against Bechem United FC.

Below is the full farewell message by COP Tiwaa Addo-Danquah
THANK YOU FROM THE DEPTH OF MY HEART TO YOU ALL
I have today 15th January 2020 handed over the Command of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to COP/Mr Ken Yeboah.
Wow! It has been fascinating and breathtaking within this period especially last week considering the messages and phone calls I have received from some of you.
I must say it has been full of emotions and mixed feelings for me but how can words alone express my sincere gratitude to all of you?  How do I make you understand how much I want to express my gratefulness to all personnel of the CID?  It has been such an amazing experience working with you to serve God and Country. I hope this simple thank you message of mine finds its way into your hearts and memories just as yours have found their ways into mine.
The celebrated English playwright, William Shakespeare once said, “All the world is a stage and all men are merely players. They have their entrances and their exits…” so I became the Director-General of the CID when I least expected it. But again, just like William Shakespeare said that all the world is a stage and all men are merely players, I only tried to play my parts to the best of my abilities.
In fact, I did not expect my exit from the CID directorate to generate emotional reactions and mixed feelings as I am experiencing now but the book of Ecclesiastes reminds us about the fact that there is time for everything. Just as I came to the CID as its Director-General, I ought to go because the time is certainly up. It’s time to exit for another to come but am I really gone? I don’t think I have gone anywhere. I am only moving from the CID directorate to another directorate where I will have the opportunity to take care of both CID and uniform personnel so I have not gone anywhere actually. I am still with you just as we have been together all these years.
This week has been one of my sober moments of reflections in my life. Throughout my policing career, I have never felt worthy and proud of myself more than these few days since it was announced that I have been rescheduled to Welfare as the Director-General. I probably didn’t know myself too well until these few days and I must say that I am really humbled. I think I have under estimated my potentials and capabilities until these few days when you made me believe that I can actually make my good better and my better best in all my endeavours. The hopes and the confidence you have expressed in me really make me humble. It also tells me that I actually have what it takes to touch more lives especially those who are depressed and broken.
Your messages and phone calls really means a lot to me and I promise to keep good memories of them wherever I go.
I have been very emotional.  I read some of them with teary eyes. Honestly, I felt I was doing my normal policing work but little did I know
that I was touching so many lives without realizing it. Trust me that I least expected that my normal self could touch so many lives more especially CID personnel. If I had actually known that I have what it takes to touch lives per the messages and phone calls I have and continues to receive from some of you, then I would have increased the pace.
The messages have been enormous. I have read every bit of your messages. Some of you wish I stay a little bit longer but that is where I disagree with you. I actually have to go wherever my services are needed. I think we rather have to celebrate our successes together. We should share the moments of joy and happiness we had when working together. We should look at the things we accomplished together and be proud of ourselves. We should look at how we overrode the storms that we faced at high seas as far as the affairs of the CID are concerned but we still managed to paddle our canoes to safety despite all odds.
In fact, I have always anticipated leaving the CID and so I lived my life as if every day was my last day as the Director-General of the CID.
I know that the most valuable asset of every organization is its human capital so I always try in my little efforts to ensure that there is that conducive environment for personnel to work. I also try to pay particular attention to their problems and complaints. That act my normal self and I always try to first do unto others what I want them to do unto me.
Let me seize this golden opportunity to thank those who first of all had hopes and confidence in me thereby offered me the opportunity to head the CID as the Director-General. It was an honour they did to me and I really appreciate it. Since the inception of the CID, Becoming the first women substantive head of the CID for more than 2 years came with lots of challenges. With your support and efforts, we turned lots of our challenges into success stories and it is this reason that I believe you should celebrate together if I had succeeded, it is all because of your support.
I will also take this opportunity to thank the current IGP for reposing confidence in me by rescheduling me to the Welfare directorate. It is another honour bestowed on me and so I am grateful. I am prepared to take up the challenge. Just as my normal self was able to touch many depressed and broken souls at the CID, I still hope that I can contribute my very best to the welfare directorate. I see it as a higher call for duty which I must prepare myself psychological and physically for and I must say that some messages I have already received inspire me a lot.
Lastly, because I am human, I might have wronged some of you in one way or the other. I sincerely apologize and ask for your forgiveness. They were not personal It’ happened because of the work and nothing more. We couldn’t have stayed together without having some little differences and misunderstandings but we should be able to bury our differences and forge ahead I also want to say that I have nothing against anybody who feel they might have wronged me. We needed to work together and once the work is done, we have no choice than to reconcile.
I urge you to extend the same love and support to the new DG/CID you offered me, I am of a strong conviction that you will achieve a lot more together with him. It is actually time not to relent in your efforts, commitments and dedications to duty.
Since I don’t have the words to express my gratitude’s and appreciations to you for the love and the support offered me, I simply chose to say THANK YOU and GOD BLESS you all. ??????
Still keep the fire burning

NB: Kindly share with all the personnel serving under your command. I will be on the various crime officer’s platforms till midnight then exit

Sincerely yours
MYT Addo-Danquah

Brouhaha over New Voters’ Register: ‘we will flog EC boss like a horse’ – NDC Communicator

0

Member of the National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) Communications Team, Kingsly Haruna Amaliba has said the party will flog Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC), Jean Mensah if she turns a deaf-ear to the party’s demand of not creating a new voters’ register.
According to him, the EC Boss’ entrenched position on not creating a new voters’ register comes as a shock to many Ghanaians including members of his party and other political parties as well as other organised groups.
Haruna Amaliba made the statement Thursday on Atinka Tv’s Morning Show, Ghana Nie, hosted by Bismark Brown.
The communicator maintained that a few days after the District Assembly elections, the public relations officer of the commission, Mrs. Sylvia Annor was reported to have said the Voters’ register was 95% credible and fit for the purpose and so he is therefore surprised at the EC’s sudden u- turn.
He added, the ‘actions of the EC’s Chairperson only created room and doubts and speculations’, thus the NDC and will not take it lightly on the EC Boss if she fails to heed and give into the demands of the ‘majority’ of Ghanaians.
In furtherance, Haruna Amaliba likened the EC Boss to a horse which only does the right thing when it is whip.
Touching on the calls by the EC’s Eminent Advisory Committee for the public to remain calm while the EC under takes it constitutional mandate, the Communicator opined the 21- man EC committee is predisposed since northerners are not duly represented on that committee.
He said the north plays a pivotal role in the electioneering process of the country and it unclear why it was exempted.
On  Monday, 6 January,  Opposition’s political parties staged  a mammoth demonstration in Tamale against EC’s decision to compile a new voters register.
Meanwhile, Haruna Amaliba said the largest opposition Party NDC and other smaller parties under the umbrella, inter party resistance against new voters register  made their message clear ‘justification by the EC for new voters roll is unacceptable.’
The Electoral Commission (EC) since then has stressed  and maintained the need for the compilation of new voters register for the upcoming general election adding that the exercise is not a waste of resources.
The EC in its quest to compile a new voters’ register said it is committed to judiciously spending the about GH¢400 million it was granted by Parliament to be spent on the process.
