Kan Dapaah did no wrong; that is what you do when you fall in love-Shatta Wale

0

A lot of Ghanaians, including politicians, lawyers, artists, journalists have reacted to the leaked video of Minister of National Security, Albert Kan Dapaah, which circulated on social media over the weekend and then later on traditional media.
This time, most male politicians from the opposition NDC seem to be sympathising with Kan Dapaah over the issue, with the opinion that what happened to him could happen to any other person.
Despite most of the men in opposition sympathising with Kan Dapaah, others also opined that he was not up to his task as a Minister of National Security if his own security had been attacked.
While a section of the public pointed fingers at the lady in question for leaking the video, rumours also has it that a former security capo played a key role in the leaked video, giving credence to speculations that it was a plot executed from the NPP to relief the Minister of his post.
It has also been alleged that the a security official, in collaboration with two others including a senior minister in the current government contracted the lady to trap Kan Dapaah.
Meanwhile, also reacting to the Video, Shatta Wale stated that Kan Dapaah did no wrong by obeying the ‘commands’ by his ‘girlfriend’, who was trying to be nice to him in the video call with an agenda behind.
According to Shatta Wale, that is how men treat women when they are in love, adding that unless one has not fallen in love before, he will see everything wrong with the ‘love gone wrong’ leaked video.
Below is a video of shatta Wale:

Oscars 2020: Joker leads pack with 11 nominations

0

The nominations for this year’s Academy Awards have been announced, with Joker leading the pack with 11 nods.

The comic book villain origin story is up for best picture, best director and best actor for Joaquin Phoenix, plus eight other awards.
The Irishman, 1917 and Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood follow with 10 nominations each.
Britain’s Cynthia Erivo, Anthony Hopkins, Jonathan Pryce and Florence Pugh are all up for acting prizes.
Pugh, up for best supporting actress for Little Women, put her first Oscar nomination down to “hard work” and persistence.
“You’ve got to keep on going and hopefully you’ll see something at the end of the tunnel,” the 24-year-old told BBC News.
Joker’s 11 nominations equals its tally at the British Academy Film Awards, whose nominations were announced last week.
At the Oscars, though, at least one acting contender – Harriet star Erivo – will be from a BAME background.
Erivo said Harriet’s two nominations were “beyond anything I could have ever imagined” and were “more than a dream come true”.
The film’s other nomination, for best song, comes for Stand Up, which the Tony-winning actress both sang and co-wrote.
Yet the Oscars are sure to receive some censure for announcing another all-male line-up in its best director category.
Greta Gerwig, nominated for best director in 2018 for Lady Bird, did not make the cut again with Little Women.
Pugh called her omission both “sad” and “hard to navigate”. “She is in this film in the writing and the directing [and] in every single performance,” she continued.
Only five women have ever been nominated for the best director Oscar and only one – The Hurt Locker’s Kathryn Bigelow – has ever won.
Actress Issa Rae pointedly offered “congratulations to those men” as she revealed the nominations alongside actor John Cho on Monday.
Like Joker, The Irishman, 1917 and Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood are all up for the best picture prize.
The other nominees are Ford vs Ferrari (released in the UK as Le Mans 66), Jojo Rabbit, Little Women, Marriage Story and South Korean film Parasite.
Phoenix said he felt “honoured and humbled” by his nomination and congratulated his fellow nominees for giving “inspiring performances that have enriched our art form”.
He is joined in the best actor category by Marriage Story’s Adam Driver, Once Upon a Time’s Leonardo DiCaprio, Pain and Glory’s Antonio Banderas and The Two Popes’ Pryce.
The Welsh actor told BBC Radio Wales he had “written off” his chances of a nomination after missing out on an award at the Golden Globes.
“I was much more excited than I expected to be,” the 72-year-old said of his first Oscar nomination. “I felt quite emotional really. It’s been a long time coming.”
Driver, who was up for best supporting actor last year for BlacKkKlansman, said he felt “honoured and incredibly grateful to represent the people who made Marriage Story”.
DiCaprio, meanwhile, said he had been “incredibly fortunate [with Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood] to have partnered with brilliant collaborators”.
“So many [films] this year were truly original and impactful,” he continued. “I hope as we progress we continue to see even more of them.”
Erivo’s best actress rivals include Little Women’s Saoirse Ronan, Bombshell star Charlize Theron and Renee Zellweger for Judy.
Scarlett Johansson is nominated for Marriage Story and gets another nod in the supporting actress category for Jojo Rabbit.
Johansson’s Marriage Story co-star Laura Dern is also in the running for that award, as is Bombshell’s Margot Robbie.
Pugh and Kathy Bates – up for her fourth Oscar for Clint Eastwood film Richard Jewell – complete the line-up in this category.
Bates – who won the best actress Oscar for Misery in 1991 – thanked the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences “for this wonderful recognition”.
Brad Pitt is up for best supporting actor for Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood, as is The Irishman’s Al Pacino and Joe Pesci.
Hopkins and Tom Hanks – recognised for The Two Popes and A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood respectively – are the other supporting actor nominees.
Sir Anthony – who plays Pope Benedict XVI opposite Jonathan Pryce’s Pope Francis – said it was “a great honour to be nominated” for his fifth Academy Award.
Britain’s Sam Mendes joins The Irishman’s Martin Scorsese, Joker’s Todd Phillips, Parasite’s Bong Joon-ho and Quentin Tarantino in the best director category.
The recently knighted Sir Sam said he “couldn’t be more thrilled” by the nominations for his World War One epic, which he called “a labour of love for many people”.
Scorsese also called his mob drama The Irishman “a labour of love”, adding: “To be recognised in this way means a great deal to all of us.”
Phillips, meanwhile, said he was “deeply honoured by the overwhelming recognition” and paid tribute to “the genius that is Joaquin Phoenix”.
Parasite and Pedro Almodovar’s Pain and Glory are also up for the international feature film award – previously known as best foreign film.
“Two nominations for #PainAndGlory from Academy Awards. Congratulations team!!! Very excited,” tweeted Banderas in both English and Spanish.
Netflix – the subscription giant behind Marriage Story, The Irishman and The Two Popes – has received more than 20 nominations.
These include two nods in the best animated film category, where its films I Lost My Body and Klaus are up against Missing Link, Toy Story 4 and the third How to Train Your Dragon film.
That means there is no room for Frozen 2, whose only nomination comes in the best song category for Into the Unknown.
Elton John biopic Rocketman also gets its only nomination in this category, alongside tracks from Toy Story 4, Harriet and Breakthrough.
That film’s song, I’m Standing With You, marks the 11th time songwriter Diane Warren has been up for an Oscar – an award she has yet to win.
Other previous nominees in contention again include John Williams, who earns his 52nd nomination for his score for Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.
The 87-year-old composer already holds the record for the most Oscar nominations ever received by a living individual.
Also up for best original score are Joker’s female composer Hildur Gudnadottir, Little Women’s Alexandre Desplat and a pair of Newmans – Randy and Thomas – for Marriage Story and 1917 respectively.
The 92nd Academy Awards will be held at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood on 9 February.
This year’s ceremony, like last year’s, will not have an overall host, with a variety of celebrity guests instead introducing each category.
Queen biopic Bohemian Rhapsody won the most awards last year, picking up four prizes including best actor.
Green Book was named best picture, while Britain’s Olivia Colman won best actress for The Favourite.

Pokuase Interchange: Chinese supervisor assaults worker

0

A Chinese Supervisor at Zhongmei Engineering Group Limited, the construction company constructing the Pokuase Interchange has allegedly assaulted one of the Ghanaian workers at the site.
In an interview with the the GNA, the Secretary General of the General Construction, Manufacturing and Quarry Workers Union (GCMQWU), Mrs Comfort Agambaa, said she heard on January 7, 2020 that a Chinese Supervisor by name Maah assaulted Abubakar Danjima, a worker at the site at Pokuase without any provocation.
She said the case was reported at the Pokuase Police Station and it took the Police some two hours to locate and arrest the suspect at his hideout at the Ayawaso School of Hope, where he was later granted bail by the police.
Mrs Agambaa said other workers at the site said that they have been going through a lot of intimidation from their Chinese Supervisors for some time now and called on the Police Administration to investigate this assault case thoroughly.
In a related development Mr David Danquah, Secretary to the local union in a petition, said the continuous harassment from their Chinese supervisors was making the workers at the site to live in fear making productive quality services to suffer.
He said though the case is still with the Police the victim was on top of the assault sacked, while the suspect was still at post and demanded that the Chinese Supervisor if culpable should be punished and later deported.

$4 million Children & Mobile Library now white elephant

0

The advanced Children and Mobile Library, which was constructed about six years ago under the collaboration of Ghana Library Authority and Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) has been left at the mercy of mice, rodents and cobwebs.

The 4-million dollar facility, on the right stretch of Patrice Lumumba Street- about 100 meters away from Gold House, Kawukudi Junction, was earmarked to promote and harness the potential of children. However, it has become a “white elephant” for the last three years.

Interestingly, the existence of the facility stems from an agreement reached between SSNIT and Ghana Library Authority when the latter proposed that the former fund the construction of a new Purposed Children’s Library in Accra.

It is to serve as a backup for the Children’s libraries in Teshie and Kaneshie which are deteriorating and begging for refurbishment.

Indeed, per the agreement, SSNIT is responsible for constructing the building, furnishing and stocking of the library with books and modern equipment. On the other hand, Ghana Library Authority is to provide the site for the construction and recruit staff upon completion of the project.

A SSNIT and Ghana Library Authority Board called TRUSTLIB is to oversee the implementation of the project.

The library was completed three years ago, having mobile library, conference hall, recreational area with astro turf and first aid room. It is disability friendly with all air conditioners fitted. It has a computer room, offices, a large parking space, waiting area and power plant.

SSNIT, however, suspended the activities of the TRUSTLIB Board for it to carry out an audit on the expenditure made so far on the project. The understanding is that SSNIT will resume its commitment towards the library after the audit.

From all indications, it looks as if the audit report has been concealed. Absolutely nothing from the two parties have been heard on the Children and Mobile Library.

Speaking  to the issue at a press conference in Accra, Executive Director of Child Rights International, Bright Kwaku Appiah  said the situation is an affront to Article 28 (1c) which states that in all cases the interest of the children is paramount.

They believe that the initiative is a laudable one and are calling on SSNIT to show commitment in making the project to be operational in the interest of children as provided in the Children’s Act, 1998 Act 560.

Similarly, he admonished the Ghana Library Authority to recognize the project as theirs and commit itself towards the realization of its mandate and objectives.

And that with the abandonment of the facility, it is beginning to deteriorate making the venture a waste of state resources, he mentioned.

Our visit to the facility confirmed exactly the issue at hand as no activities are ongoing but the presence of security guards.

Onshore oil exploration will have major Ghanaian involvement – Akufo-Addo assures

0

President Akufo-Addo has sent a strong signal that his government will ensure greater Ghanaian participation in the exploration of onshore oil deposits in Ghana particularly in the Volta basin as compared to offshore oil exploration which has large foreign involvement.
The President made the disclosure when he responded to a request by Chiefs of Avenor during an interaction with them, Queen Mothers and Elders of the Avenor Traditional Council when they paid a courtesy call on him at the Jubilee House  Monday.
The Avenor Chief
In his address to the President, the leader of the Delegation, Paramount Chief and President of the Avenor Traditional Council, Torgbe Dorglo Anumah VI, requested government to put in place mechanisms to begin oil exploration in their area immediately.
“Long ago, the Romanians were exploring oil in Avenorpeme and they bandied off and claimed that the oil involved was not in commercial quantities, but we are of the believe that their technology was limited and not advanced enough.
Today, oil has been discovered in the Volta basin and we know that the catchment area covers our area also”. We are pleading and hoping that you find the wisdom, the financial resources, to undertake this important project” Torgbe Dorglo said.
President Akufo-Addo
President Akufo-Addo in response to the request of the paramount Chief of Avenor indicated that his call is a welcomed one but the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) would have to be allowed to complete their ongoing studies in the area. He further noted that in the event that the studies establish the available of the oil deposits, he will ensure that Ghanaians get the upper hand in the exploration of same.
“On shore is much cheaper to bring up than off shore oil. Off shore oil is a very expensive business and that is why you need these huge companies, ExxonMobil, and others, to be able to put the rigs into the seabed to bring up the oil.
When it comes to onshore, the capital is not so expensive so we are hoping that if the studies confirm that there is indeed oil there, we can get as many Ghanaians as possible, people from the area and elsewhere to be involved in bring it up and using it for our development” Akufo-Addo stated.
Further Requests by the Chiefs
The Chiefs amongst others also requested of government to facilitate efforts at the formal inauguration of the anticipated change of the Avenor Traditional Area from a District to a Municipal Assembly.
They also requested for two busses for the Avenor Senior High School and the Traditional Council, completion of the Akatsi District Hospital into a fully-fledged hospital, and Presidential recognition of the “Avenor Tutudoza festival” on the national calendar of festivals in Ghana.
To the multiple requests, President Akufo-Addo said he will ensure that all the relevant Ministers and institutions give them the needed attention it deserves.
