10 toxic relationship habits you need to avoid

0

If you’ve ever been in a long-term relationship, you must have found out that it’s not all about great chemistry and romantic love. Relationships can be tough and most of us make them even tougher by behaving in a toxic way or enduring the toxic behaviour of the partner. Here are ten habits that you should quit, if you want the relationship to last.

1. Taking everything personally

Sometimes we tend to feel that every single thing our partner says or does has an implication for our relationship. He may be just tired from work but you think he’s angry with you for some reason. The truth is that not everything he does is about you. Remember this, remind yourself that there are other factors that can influence someone’s mood and behaviour and your life will be easier.

2. Getting your way. Always!

We’ve said it more than once but we’ll say it again. A happy, balanced relationship is about compromise, not about you getting your way every time because your needs and wants are more important than his, and because controlling every situation is so important for you, you’ve come to think of it as equal to a happy relationship.

3. Letting him get his way

The other extreme, of always conceding to your partner’s needs and desires, is equally toxic. You may think you’re being more reasonable than him, when you end an argument by accepting his opinion and sacrificing yours, but over time this can start weighing on you. Balance, remember.

4. Exaggerating

When we’re in love we often make mountains out of molehills. That’s a dangerous habit – it can ruin the happiness you deserve. Every time you start fretting about some little thing, stop and try to think logically about the situation. Nine times out of ten there will be a logical reason for your partner’s behaviour.

5. Mistrust

Trust is something we earn, it’s not a given. But turning a blind eye to everything that tells you you can trust your partner is one of the most toxic habits you can have in your relationship. Maybe you’re just feeling insecure and that’s why you secretly check the log on his phone? Give this some thought.

6. Comparing with other couples

Every relationship is different, because relationships involve different individuals. Don’t think that yours is worse than your best friend’s, just because they look like they never argue and are always happy together. No couple is permanently happy.

7. Comparing with past relationships

Arguably, this is even worse than comparisons with other couples. Whenever you catch yourself sighing about a past relationship that you think made you feel happier than your current one, think of the reasons why that relationship ended. Chances are, you’ll get back to your senses. Unless, of course, that relationship was indeed more fulfilling than the current one.

8. Avoiding confrontation

Some people are really scared of open confrontation and would do everything they can to avoid it, even if it means neglecting their own needs and desires. That doesn’t sound very healthy, does it? Confrontations don’t necessarily mean an all-out scandal, you can express disagreement in a calm, reasonable way.

9. Mission: teaching

You might think that if you put enough effort into it, you will be able to change your partner for the better. That if you refuse him something, he’ll learn to be more caring. That if you hint about what you want instead of saying it directly – will make him more intuitive. Give it up, adults can seldom be changed so radically and, besides, why did you get together with this person if you think he’s so imperfect in the first place?

10. Loving the drama

Yes, some of us have a heightened sense of the dramatic and wouldn’t miss a chance to stage a three-act play. This love for drama has to do with about three of the bad habits listed so far, but it’s more complex than them. Threatening to leave him because he forgot your anniversary is a bit over the top, don’t you think? Especially if you’re clearly aware that he’s been having problems at work or with his family.

Stay happy, love and be loved!

2018 looks good for Ghanaians – Bawumia

0

Vice President of the Republic, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, is highly optimistic Ghanaians will feel real transformation in their lives from this year as the government rolls out a number of programmes to boost the economy.

Opening the 69th edition of the Annual New Year School at the University of Ghana on Monday, January 15, 2018, Dr. Bawumia stated the government used its first year in office to lay a solid foundation, adding all is set for a positive outlook in 2018.

He served notice a number of programmes will be rolled out this year including the establishment of the Integrated Bauxite and Aluminium Development Authority to spearhead the exploitation along the full value chain of Ghana’s consumable bauxite resources.

According to him, the government will ensure “transparent accounting for our natural resources exported such as gold, oil and introduce a new financing model for development: leveraging our natural resources.”

He added Ghana will witness the largest investment in infrastructure under the Akufo-Addo Plan for Economic Transformation which will focus on “Railways – Eastern, Line, Western Line, Central Spine – Private sector driven; the completed Sekondi to Takoradi (10km) line, Roads and interchanges, Bridges, Water, Rural Electrification among others.”

Also, the Legislative Instrument for the National ID cards, which is popularly known as the Ghana Card, is expected to be passed by Parliament soon for mass nationwide registration to begin, the Vice President said.

In the banking sector, Dr Bawumia has no doubt the inter-operability of payment system will streamline the industry and make it more attractive to Ghanaians.

“Having an interoperable payments system between banks, mobile operators and other financial sector players enables people to make payments to anyone else in a convenient, affordable, fast, seamless and secure way with one account,” the former deputy governor of the Central Bank remarked.

He mentioned that the Zongo Development Fund, Development Authorities,  One District One Factory, Nation Builders Corps – 100,000 graduates, Land Digitalization, E-Passports and E-Visas and many others will all take off this year.

“Much of the focus of the Digital Address System drive in 2018 will be to integrate it with key government agencies such as ECG, Ghana Water Company, SSNIT, etc,” the economist stressed.

“I would like to stress that at the heart of the government of His Excellency Nana Akufo-Addo is the vision of a Ghana Beyond Aid. In short, government and the people of Ghana must take full ownership and responsibility for the nation’s economic growth and transformation, in a new partnership with our development partners.
“We envisage a paradigm shift where trade, private capital flows, strategic political cooperation and partnership, as well as domestic resource mobilization, become the driving force of our development,” Dr Bawumia emphasised.

He added: “We have done it before – Ghana has always been the initiator and the Star of Africa and with the collective support and hard work of all Ghanaians, we can do it again and ensure our economic transformation and development.”

The New Year School is organised by the School of Continuing and Distance Education under the College of Education. The 69th Annual New Year School and Conference is under the theme: “Job Creation for Accelerated National Development: The Role of the Private Sector” and will end Friday, January 19, 2018.

Akufo-Addo’s govt hits historic fiscal deficit target

0

The Government under President Akufo-Addo in 2017 chalked a historic feat in the macroeconomic sector by achieving its Fiscal Deficit Target. This is the first since 2006.

A visibly elated Dr. Bawumia said the achievement was historic, expressing gratitude to government appointees for their diligence.

The Government created fiscal space by capping of earmarked funds to 25% of government revenue and realigning expenditures to government priorities, the Vice President of the Republic, Dr. Alhaji Mahamudu Bawumia, disclosed at the opening of the 2018 New Year School and Conference at the University of Ghana, Legon on Monday, January 15, 2018.

“No government has been able to do this even though many have expressed the intent to," the Vice President noted in relation to the capping initiative.

According to him, the government stayed current and focused on payments to statutory funds such as GETFund, NHIS, DACF, SSNIT, Road Fund in 2017 while paying arrears inherited from the previous Mahama administration.

He added that the government also validated arrears inherited for the Statutory Funds, Capex, Compensation, and goods and services at the end of 2016 which amounted to GH¢3.1 billion. About two-thirds of the total arrears was statutory, adding out of the total, the government has paid GH¢1.45 billion in 2017.

"In fact, in just one year we have paid almost half of the arrears accumulated by the NDC government while staying current on existing obligations,” Dr. Bawumia emphasized.

He further added, "it was in this regard that I find it amusing that some latter day saints are asking government to pay arrears owed to contractors after recklessly accumulating the arrears in the first place and not paying it themselves."

The 69th edition of the New Year School and Conference is under the theme: “Job Creation for Accelerated National Development: The Role of the Private Sector” and is scheduled to end Friday, January 19, 2018.

0

Information gathered by Atinkaonline indicates that the Odorkor Police have arrested suspects in possession of  bombs and grenades.

The suspects are currently in  custody as the police intensifies  investigation.  One of the suspects is to believed to be a member of ISIS.

Meanwhile, security expert, Irbard Ibrahim, in a statement, said the weapons are military grade MK2 explosives capable of causing damage within a radius of between 150 and 200 meters on impact.

However, he called on Ghanaians to remain calm and not panic as "we have a diligent police force and a robust army on standby to keep Ghana safe"

We call on the media to make an effort to allay the fears of the good people of Ghana as our security services piece together the needed evidence to prevent any attack that could be in the offing.

Below is the Irbard’s statement:

“ We have picked up intel that two Ghanaian Libyan returnees have been detained at the Odokor Police Divisional Command with hand grenades.
A careful look at the seven grenades this consult has seen so far points to the fact that they are military grade MK2 explosives capable of causing damage within a radius of between 150 and 200 meters on impact.

Much as this is scary, it should not cause fear and panic within the Ghanaian population. We have gallant men and women in uniform who are working round the clock to keep Ghanaians safe.

We have a diligent police force and a robust army on standby to keep Ghana safe.

We call on the media to make an effort to allay the fears of the good people of Ghana as our security services piece together the needed evidence to prevent any attack that could be in the offing.

In the meantime, citizens should go about their daily activities without any fear or panic and be ready to volunteer information on any suspicious movements or packages, as Ghana tightens checks at all our 42 approved and unapproved entry points to prevent any further ISIS infiltration.”

Nana Addo’s response to Trump's “Shithole” comments necessary – Mustapha Hamid

Minister of Information, Mustapha Hamid, says  President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo’s response to the  “shithole” comments made by Donald Trump as necessary.

The US leader allegedly described African countries as "shitholes" in a meeting on immigration last Thursday.

Mr. Trump has however denied making the disparaging remarks.

Speaking to Ekourba Gyasi on Atinka AM Drive, Minister of Information, Mustapha Hamid stated that, although Donald Trump did not mention Ghana, he made mention of Haiti and the African continent in general.

According to the Minister, it is prudent for heads of African countries to condemn the act individually just as President did.

“In such matters, it is always good for the African Union to condemn the issue the African way as a group. It is however, also important for heads of African countries to  condemn the action individually”, he added.

Baghdad double suicide attack kills many

0

At least 35 people have been killed in a double suicide bombing in the Iraqi capital Baghdad, medical sources say, the second attack in three days.

More than 90 were injured in the attack in Tayaran Square, in the city centre.

Baghdad has repeatedly been the target of bombings and armed attacks since the Islamic State (IS) group overran large areas of the country in 2014.

However, the pace of attacks has slowed since Iraq's government declared it had retaken all the territory last month.

Monday's attack was carried out by two men wearing suicide vests packed with explosives, the interior ministry said.

The site of the attack is a busy square where large crowds of construction workers gather to find work every morning.

It has been targeted by militants in the past.

An AFP reporter said there were a large number of security personnel at the site.

A suicide bomb attack on a checkpoint in the north of the city on Saturday killed at least five people, police said.

Photos: 40 arrested for vandalising police station at Doryumu

0

The Dodowa Divisional Police has apprehended 40 people including 3 females for vandalizing the Doryumu Police Station.

According to some residents, the youth  took the action  because the police did not respond to their call swiftly during an attack on some toll collectors at the P.W Quarries at Shai Hills in the Shai-Osudoku District of the Greater Accra Region.

Some unknown gunmen on Saturday night   attacked the toll collectors, demanding money and in the process, killed one of the collectors, James Assuma, 40. The case was subsequently reported to the Doryumu police. However, some youth of the Doryumu township in the early hours of Sunday, besieged the police station and smashed their doors, vandalized the station and pushed one of the station pick up vehicles to the outskirt of the town in an attempt to burn it.

The Dodowa police augmented by their Prampram and Ashaiman counterparts numbering 58 embarked on an operation, leading to the arrest of the 40 suspects.

Narrating the incident to Atinka News, the Assemblyman for Doryumu, Benjamin Manye said he had a call from a colleague Assemblyman on Sunday night concerning the incident and rushed to the police station only to find several young people behind bars .

Much as he condemned the behaviour of the youth since the police are there to protect them, he was quick to add that, his checks indicated that majority of those arrested were innocent. Mr. Manye was, however concerned about the increasing spate of indiscipline in the area and called on the elders, opinion leaders in collaboration with the police to nip the unfortunate development in the bud before it festers into something else.

The Asafoatse of Doryumu, Adjangor Akwada lV,  condemned the action of the youth  and  accused some individuals of  securing the services of land guards to terrorize  people embarking on legitimate operations in the area .

Asafoatse Akwada observed that  prior to the Sunday’s incident, six people who  are currently receiving treatment at the Shai-Osudoku District Hospital were inflicted with multiple wounds by these same land guards.

He therefore called for cooperation between the town folks and the police to address the growing  Indiscipline in  the area.

Meanwhile, the suspects have subsequently been transferred to the Tema Regional Police Command for further investigation and possible prosecution

“Industry grew by -0.5% in 2016; 17.7% In 2017” – Akufo-Addo

The President of the Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has stated that the new paradigm of economic development, which his administration is vigorously pursuing, of insisting on value-addition industrial activities within a conducive and business-friendly environment, can make headway.

According to President Akufo-Addo, it is common knowledge that, in recent years, industry has not done well, as growth rate in industry slumped to -0.5% in 2016, as opposed to a growth rate of 15.1%, at the end of 2008.

However, the President stated that “as a result of the normalisation of the power situation in the country, and the implementation of government’s pro-business policies, I believe our objective of shifting the focus of our economy from taxation to production is bearing fruit.

“In 2017, industry grew at 17.7%, a radically marked improvement on its abysmal 2016 performance in the last year of the Mahama administration.”

President Akufo-Addo made this known on Saturday, 13th January, 2018, when he commissioned the Twyford Ceramics Factory, at Shama, in the Western Region.

The President acknowledged that unless the country industrialises with the goal of adding value to our primary products, “we cannot create the necessary numbers of high-paying jobs that will enhance the living standards of the mass of our people. Raw material producing economies do not create prosperity for the masses. The way to ensuring access to prosperity is the industrial development of our economy.”

It is for this reason that the President congratulated the Chairperson, Board of Directors and Management of Sunda International for the decision to establish the factory in Shama.

The factory, he was confident, will not only reduce the country’s ceramic tiles import bill, and thus saving the country considerable sums of foreign exchange, but will also serve as a source of employment for many young men and women, resident in Shama.

“I am also happy to note that ninety five percent (95%) of the factory’s raw material needs will be sourced locally. The promoters of this project should work towards increasing this figure to a hundred percent (100%),” the President added.

Industrial Development Tariff

In furtherance of Government’s commitment to improve the business environment, President Akufo-Addo revealed that Ghana National Gas Company Limited (Ghana Gas) has responded favourably to the request of Twyford Ceramics Limited for a reduction of the price per unit gas supply to the company, and, indeed, to industries across the country.

“Through the new Industrial Development Tariff, authorised by the Minister for Energy, a new rate of US$6.50 per Million British Thermal Units (MMBtu) has been approved for industry, as against the previous rate of US$8.84 per Million British Thermal Units (MMBtu). Ghana Gas notified the company of this in its letter dated 22nd November, 2017,” President Akufo-Addo noted.

This Government, he said, “is determined to enhance the competitiveness of Ghanaian industries.”

President Akufo-Addo assured the partners of the project that, under his watch, Ghana will be a great place to do business.

“The experienced Minister for Trade and Industry will work with you to address any challenges that may arise, but, if, indeed, it becomes necessary, which I hope it will not, to go higher up the chain of authority, I want you to know that my doors will always be open. I do, on the other hand, insist that, on your part, you play according to the rules and regulations of the sector and the laws of the country as a whole,” he said.

The President wished all stakeholders in the project great success, adding that “we are on the threshold of something remarkable in Ghana, and I am pleased to have those involved in the Twyford Ceramics Factory as partners in our country’s exciting, new journey.”
