Captain Armstrong Slams Energy Ministers, Rates Mahama 50%

Captain (Eng.) Niel Armstrong, an NPP member, has launched a strong critique against Ghana’s energy ministers, accusing them of lacking the technical expertise to manage the country’s power sector.

Speaking on Atinka TV’s Oman Mu Nsem, Armstrong said the ongoing energy crisis, popularly known as “dumsor,” is partly due to incompetent leadership at the Ministry of Energy.

“Most ministers appointed to that sector have no idea what they’re doing,” – he stated.

He proposed that Ghana needs just 150 megawatts of solar energy to help stabilize power supply and end the recurring outages. According to him, if the Mahama-led government fails to act on the energy crisis, it will face serious consequences in the next election.

Armstrong also rated President Mahama’s first 120 days in office at 50%, citing the high cost of living, persistent fuel prices, and the unimpactful drop in the dollar rate. “If the cedi is gaining strength, it must reflect in the market. Ghanaians are still suffering,” he noted.

He shared an example of alleged sabotage in the energy sector, saying his company’s involvement in a 2023 gas pipeline project at VALCO was blocked due to internal resistance and corruption.

On the free sanitary pad initiative for schoolgirls, Armstrong said it was a good move but not a significant national achievement.

He ended with a call for a clear national development plan, lamenting Ghana’s lack of vision. “Even countries like Burkina Faso are doing more to fight poverty. Ghana needs direction,” he said.

Sege DCE Confirmation: Regional Minister put Assembly Members under strict Surveillance

Secrete ballot, one vital element of democracy, has been dragged into the mud by the Greater Accra Regional Minister, Linda Akweley Ocloo, who sat to strictly watch how assembly members thumbprinted ballots.

The unfortunate occured at the confirmation of the president’s nominee for the West Ada Constituency.

Ahead of the exercise, minister made it clear that, “I will monitor by physically checking the direction in which each assembly member will vote to see who will descent”.
True to her words, the minister took a seat very close to the opening of the electoral booth to observe the pattern every assembly member voted, an act which is undemocratic and constitute trampling on the rights of members under the electoral laws.

Not only the minister, but her security personnel and some officials on her entourage stood all through and kept close observation of each member to the chagrin of many democracy lovers who witnessed the exercise.

Surprisingly, the district electoral officer never said anything, not even when an experienced member, a former presiding member and former national president of prisiding members of Ghana, Dr. David Narh Amuyaw, raised issues about the gross violations.

Aside from that, despite the presence of police, fire and immigration officers to ensure peace and other at the event, the thugs believed to be land guards who follow the minister everywhere surrounded the assembly hall heightening tention at an exercise deemed to be democratic.

Such fictitious tendency characterised sorting and counting of ballots leading to the declaration of the nominee obtaining 72 percent to be deemed approved.

Tragedy Strikes as Worker Electrocuted During Store Construction in Twifo Praso

A construction worker, identified as Mr. Samuel Kwame Afezei and believed to be about 50 years old, lost his life in a tragic electrocution incident while working on the third floor of a building under construction in Twifo Praso Zongo, Twifo Atti Morkwa District.

The accident occurred near high-tension power lines and an ECG transformer, raising serious questions about safety oversight at the site.

The incident has sent shockwaves through the community and sparked renewed concerns about enforcement of construction regulations.

According to the Assembly Member for the Zongo-Anogyan Electoral Area, Hon. Richmond Banny, repeated warnings had been issued to both the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) and the district engineer regarding the building’s dangerous proximity to high-voltage infrastructure.

Despite these warnings, construction was allowed to continue.

Hon. Banny attributed the inaction to political interference, alleging that the store owner has ties to the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), which may have influenced the lack of regulatory response.

The tragedy, which occurred around midday, has left residents and tenants occupying the lower floors of the building in fear. Unconfirmed reports have also surfaced, alleging possible bribery involving local authorities, which may have enabled the unsafe construction to proceed.

In the wake of the incident, Hon. Banny is calling on the Twifo Atti Morkwa District Chief Executive to take immediate steps to investigate the matter and enforce strict safety measures to protect workers and residents going forward.

Photos: Joy and Gratitude as DJ Mensah Foundation Donates Desks to Akokoasa A.E.D.A School

Cheers, songs, and unrestrained joy filled the air at Akokoasa A.E.D.A School in the Central Region of Ghana today as the DJ Mensah Foundation donated 60 brand-new ultramodern metal desks to the school, transforming the learning environment for over 300 pupils.

The heartwarming donation event, themed “Empowering Education: Desks for a Brighter Future,” was attended by traditional leaders, educationists, and parents from the community — all visibly moved by the impact of the gesture.

For years, pupils at Akokoasa A.E.D.A School sat on bare floors to learn, a situation that not only hampered academic performance but also discouraged many children from attending school. Today, that story changed.

The elated pupils danced and sang as they received their desks, many of them openly expressing their joy and gratitude to DJ Mensah, who they hailed as a true hero.

“I feel happy today,” one pupil said. “God bless DJ Mensah.”

In his remarks, the founder and Executive Director of the DJ Mensah Foundation, DJ Mensah, known for his philanthropic works and influence in Ghana’s entertainment industry, said it was unacceptable that children still had to sit on floors to learn in 2025.

“It is the right of every child to have access to a decent learning environment,” he said.

“I want to thank everyone who supported this cause. This isn’t just about desks, it’s about dignity and opportunity.. to the students, you are valued and your dreams are important to us” – He added.

The gesture was inspired by a viral video by renowned digital journalist Kobby Kyei, which highlighted the dire state of infrastructure at the school. The footage caught the attention of DJ Mensah and triggered the foundation’s swift response.

Speaking to this reporter, Kobby Kyei shared his emotions: “I was heartbroken when I saw JHS students learning on the floor. I’ve seen this at the kindergarten level, but never at the junior high level. I’m grateful to DJ Mensah for responding so quickly and changing their story.”

Mr. Kassim Mohammed, Deputy Director of Finance and Administration at the Agona East Education Directorate, also expressed profound gratitude.

“We have over 300 students here, but most of the desks were broken. This affected attendance and learning. Thanks to DJ Mensah, our students now have a proper place to sit and learn. The books that came with the donation will also be placed in the library and shared for home reading,” – he said.

The day was not just a donation—it was a powerful statement that every child, regardless of location, deserves a chance at quality education.

The people of Akokoasa will remember this day—not just for the desks, but for the dignity, hope, and future it restored.
