Parents Storm WAEC Office in Kumasi Over SHS Placement Challenges

SHS Placement Challenges

Hundreds of frustrated parents and guardians besieged the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) office and other placement resolution centers in Kumasi on Thursday, seeking urgent assistance with ongoing Senior High School (SHS) placement issues.

One of the major hotspots was the Kumasi Technical Institute (KTI) auditorium, where long queues began forming as early as 3:30 a.m. Parents and students, some visibly distressed, expressed disappointment over the placement outcomes, claiming their wards were not posted to their preferred schools.

The situation grew increasingly chaotic, with reports of verbal confrontations among some aggrieved parents, as tensions ran high. With the new academic year set to commence on October 18, 2025, many parents are calling for immediate government intervention to address what they describe as a deeply flawed placement process.

In an interview with Atinka News, the Ashanti Regional Free SHS Coordinator, Mr. Hamza Iddrisu , acknowledged the concerns but noted that some of the problems stem from parents not following placement instructions properly.

WAEC and Ghana Education Service (GES) authorities have assured the public that placement resolution centers will remain open to assist affected families in the coming days.
