Parliament: Security Minister, 2 others summoned over Bawku clash

The National Security Minister, Kan Dapaah, has been summoned to Parliament over the renewed clash in Bawku.

The First Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Joseph Osei Owusu, summoned the Minister plus other ministers for Defence and Interior, Dominic Aduna Bingab Nitiwul and Ambrose Dery over the security situation in Bawku in the Upper East Region.

The ministers are expected to brief the House on the recent clashes in Bawku, an event that has thrown Bawku into a state of fear.

Speaking on the Floor of Parliament on Thursday 17th March 2022 Mr Osei Owusu, who was presiding over proceedings, asked the National Security Minister to appear to answer urgent questions on what is happening in the border town.

The Minority Chief Whip Alhaji Muntaka Mohammed Mubarak, however added that the Defence Minister and the Interior Minister should be added to brief parliamentarians on what is happening in Bawku.

The clash in Bawku was renewed after a horse trader was shot dead under bizarre circumstances while he was on his way to Widana to bring back one of his horses on Monday 15th March 2022.

3 military men attached to the 11th Mechanized Infantry Battalion located in the Upper East Region capital of Bolgatanga and had gone to Bawku to maintain law and order were severely injured as a result of the renewed clash.

The officers were airlifted to Accra for further treatment at the 37 Military Hospital.

A joint security team have been deployed to Bawku to maintain law and order.
