Police launches investigations into Miotso shooting

The Tema Police has begun investigations into the incident that led to the death of a 79-year-old man at Miotso in Prampram.

The 79 year-old kingmaker, Daniel Akwetey Okine popularly known as Igwe, was gunned down by some unknown assailants at his residence in Miotso.

The latest incident which comes barely two months after the killing of the Kley Tsokunya Family Head in Prampram, who was also killed during a meeting at dawn has left many residents in fear.

According to reports, the armed men who broke into the room of the late Kingmaker, after destroying the door with the aid of a concrete slab, fired several shots into the abdomen and chest of the deceased.

Speaking with the media, the Prampram police patrols said on Wednesday, February 2, 2022, at about 2.10 am while on night duty patrols, it accosted two gentlemen, who upon interrogations informed police that they had information to the effect that, their 79-year-old father had been shot and killed at his residence at Miotso.

The patrol team stated that it accompanied them to the address of their father and found that the main door to the two-bedroom house had been broken into with a six-inch block.

Upon reaching the scene, the Team noticed that the body of the deceased, Mr. Daniel Akwetey Awulley, was found in his bedroom with gunshot wounds in his chest and thigh.

The body has since been deposited at the Tema General Hospital Morgue for autopsy and preservation.

Meanwhile, personnel from the Homicide Unit, CID Headquarters and Regional CID, Tema, are currently at the scene and have launched a full-scale investigation into the incident.

“The Police wish to use this opportunity to appeal to members of the public who may have any information leading to the arrest of the perpetrators of this heinous crime to contact the nearest police station for further action, “the Police added.
