Police on manhunt for robbers who killed two officers at Zuarungu

The Ghana Police Administration has launched a special anti-robbery intelligence-led operation to track down and arrest three suspected robbers who shot and killed two Police officers at Zuarungu on Wednesday night, December 15, 2021.

The two deceased Police officers, No. 56205 General Constable Emmanuel Akowuah and No.57658 General Constable Adam Suley were shot when they run into the three suspected robbers while on a motorbike patrol within the Zuarungu Township.

The preliminary investigation established that the three suspected robbers attacked a provision shop at gunpoint and succeeded in robbing the victim of an amount of Two Thousand Ghana Cedis (GH¢ 2,000.00).

The two Police officers while on their routine patrols at Zuarungu unexpectedly appeared at the robbery scene and were fired at by the three suspected robbers who were attempting to bolt.

It was further revealed that the bullets pierced through the fuel tank of the police motorbike which exploded into flames and partially burnt General Constable Adam Suley.

According to the police, the bodies have since been deposited at the Bolgatanga Regional Hospital morgue for preservation and autopsy.

Meanwhile, the police said five (5) empty shells of AK 47 ammunition and one (1) empty shell of BB cartridge ammunition were retrieved from the scene together with the burnt Police motorbike to aid the investigations.

It added that the families of the two deceased Police officers have been informed of the sad incident and will be offered psychological and trauma care.

For his part, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Dr. George Akuffo Dampare has directed the Eastern and Volta Regional Police Commanders to lead a delegation to Kibi and Alavanyo respectively to commiserate with the bereaved families of the two Police officers and convey the condolences of the Police Administration.

The Police Administration has further offered an amount of Fifty Thousand Ghana Cedis (GH¢ 50,000) reward for any information leading to the arrest of the three suspects who committed this heinous crime.

“We are assuring the families of the two deceased Police officers and the general public that we are determined to get these suspected robbers arrested to face justice for their callous act,” the police said.

It added that a special anti-robbery task force is being deployed to assist the Upper East Regional Police Command in combating robbery and other violent crimes in the region to safeguard lives and properties.
