The Ghana Police Service has secured a court injunction against a planned three-day demonstration by pressure group, Generational Rights Protection Society (GRPS).
The protest, which was scheduled to take place between May 20 and 30, aimed to draw national attention to the worsening effects of galamsey and push for immediate government action.
However, the police cited security concerns and potential disruptions to public order in their application for the injunction.
Leaders of the GRPS are expected to appear in court tomorrow, Thursday, April 25, 2025, to respond to the legal challenge and argue for their constitutional right to protest.
The leadership of GRPS confirmed their commitment to pursuing legal means to have the demonstration approved, describing their cause as a fight for environmental justice.
The outcome of tomorrow’s hearing will determine whether the protest can proceed as planned in May.
