The Acting Director General of Public Affairs Unit at the Ghana Police Service (GPS), ACP Kwesi OFori says the police will arrest and send to court persons who vandalised police vehicles and offices of NEDCo over an assault by some four policemen at Tamale.
The Police Administration interdicted four Police officers working with the Northern Regional Police Command following the alleged assault of some persons in Tamale in the Northern Region on Tuesday, September 21, 2021.
According to reports, the four Police officers were assigned to assist NEDCO/VRA officials to arrest some alleged persons involved in illegal power connections.
In a statement, the police said,“The officers will face a Service Inquiry, subject to the regulations of the Ghana Police Service.”
The police administration later identified the victims of the assault and paid their medical bills.
It also apologised to the affected persons and the general public.
But five days after the incident, some residents marched through some principal streets of Tamale to register their displeasure over what they say is the frequent brutalization of residents by police officers in the area.
In the end, the protesters caused damage to the offices of NEDCo and the Lamashegu police station.
