The Minister for Local Government, Hon. Ahmed Ibrahim, has officially released the list of nominees for the position of Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) across the country, following the approval of President John Dramani Mahama.
In accordance with Article 243(1) of the 1992 Constitution and Section 20(1) of the Local Governance Act, 2016 (Act 936) as amended, the nominees will require confirmation by their respective Assemblies before assuming office.
The appointments cover all regions except the Greater Accra and Ashanti regions, which have not yet been included in this round of nominations.
Additionally, the nomination for the Kpando Municipality in the Volta Region remains pending.
The official communication, issued by the Local Government Minister on March 26, 2025, urged the respective Assemblies to undertake the necessary processes to facilitate the confirmation of the nominees in line with governance procedures.
This announcement marks a crucial step in ensuring effective local governance, as the appointed MMDCEs will be responsible for implementing government policies at the district level and driving local development.
