President John Dramani Mahama has presented a cash prize of GH₵500,000 to the University for Development Studies (UDS). This act is in recognition of their remarkable triumph at the FISU World University Football Championship held in China.
The UDS football team made history as the first Ghanaian university to ever win the global tournament. The event has earned international acclaim and brought immense pride to the nation.
When the team paid a courtesy visit to the Jubilee House to present their trophy, President Mahama warmly congratulated them. The president commended their outstanding performance and praised their discipline, teamwork, and resilience.
He described the victory as “a proud moment for Ghana”, noting that it highlights the rich sporting potential within the country’s tertiary institutions. The President emphasized that the GH₵500,000 gesture was both a commendation and an encouragement for UDS. He admonished them to continue investing in sports development and youth excellence.
UDS has lifted the flag of Ghana high on the world stage. This victory is proof that when our young people are given the right support, they can compete and win anywhere in the world.
The UDS delegation, led by university officials and the coaching staff, expressed gratitude to the President and government for the recognition. They pledged to build on their success and continue nurturing talents who can shine on both national and international stages.
