Prestea Sankofa Gold Limited (PSGL) is investing GH¢8 million to refurbish its processing plant to increase production and efficiency, the company’s Managing Director, Alhaji Ishaq Dauda, has revealed.
The company is also spending over US$3 million on constructing a modern tailings dam, a critical infrastructure project aimed at improving environmental management and operational safety.
Speaking during a media tour of the facility, Alhaji Dauda explained that the upgrades are part of PSGL’s strategy to boost gold production, improve recovery rates, and strengthen the mine’s long-term sustainability.
“The processing tanks and dam are the heartbeat of our operations. We are refurbishing them one at a time to avoid halting production. The work is expected to be completed by December,” he said.
Once completed, the refurbishment is expected to increase production capacity by 50 percent and improve gold recovery efficiency. The project also includes the installation of a new raw water tank to support the mine’s operations.
Community Engagement and Local Employment
PSGL continues to support its host communities through social initiatives. Recent projects include breast cancer screenings for 300 women in Bondaye and plans for a community library to promote literacy among schoolchildren.
Alhaji Dauda also highlighted that about 85 percent of the company’s workforce comes from local communities, reinforcing PSGL’s commitment to inclusive growth and social responsibility.
Protecting Operations and Securing the Future
PSGL has strengthened security measures to prevent illegal mining activities and safeguard its operations.
The company, established in 1994 and now 90 percent owned by GNPC, is also exploring new concessions for hard rock mining to ensure long-term sustainability. Exploration work has already defined over 400,000 ounces of gold, with more expected as drilling continues.
Rising Output and Future Prospects
Under Alhaji Dauda’s leadership, monthly gold production has doubled from 25 kilograms to 50 kilograms. He projects that after completing the refurbishment and dam, production could reach 150 kilograms per month.
“We are building a mine that creates value for our community, shareholders, and the nation. With strong management, strategic investment, and responsible mining practices, Prestea Sankofa Gold is set for a sustainable and profitable future,” he said.
