Promising US-based Ghanaian boxer visits Ashaiman Regent

A young Ghanaian boxer based in the United States of America, Joseph Awinongya Junior , has paid a courtesy call on the Regent of Ashaiman. 

Awinongya used the visit to show his two titles to the traditional head of Ashaiman in appreciation to the community which brought his father up. 

Fourteen years Joseph Awinongya Jnr, who began his boxing career at age five currently holds two titles including champion of champions title christened “jungle title” with thirteen wins as USA national champion. The young chap has participated in several boxing competitions across the fifty-two states of America winning lots of medals to his credit.  

Appreciating the rousing welcome accorded him,  talented Awinongya Jnr, pledged to extend support to Ashaiman to improve sports.

“I will build a boxing gym in Ashaiman to unearth young desirous talented boxers in the municipality. He exhorts young Ghanaians to be focused and pursue their dreams with all seriousness promising to help raise sports. I urge young Ghanaians to follow their dreams and be hardworking which is my secret and they will surely achieve their goals,” he stressed.

Asked which boxer, he looks up to Awinongya Jnr. said, “I don’t aspire to be like any boxer, but to couch my own niche as one of the greatest boxers ever and showcase to the world that Ghana has better things to offer”

Father of the budding boxer, Joseph Awinongya Senior, hinted that team Awinongya among other plans to unearth and nurture talents in Ashaiman, Ghana and across Africa through sports seeks to institute a boxing exchange programme between Ghana and America to produce more boxers for the country.

The Regent of Ashaiman, Nii Anang Adjor, on his part expressed discontent at the seeming neglect of Ashaiman in the establishment of sporting facilities across Ghana, in spite of talents the municipality has churned out in the sports as well as its contribution to the overall contribution to national development. 

The Ashaiman Regent promised that his outfit will liaise with team Awinongya to actualize his vision through the delivery of sports facilities in Ashaiman, boxing in particular. 

The name Joseph Awinongya is all over America and Europe for his sterling boxing exploits as he has taken several competitions by storm with surprises. Many Ghanaians and Africans want to see sensational Joseph Awinongya Jnr. as one of Africa’s greatest boxer ever in the few years ahead.
