The newly established Boxing Interim Management Committee (IMC) has named Azumah Nelson, a three-time world boxing champion, as its Vice Chairman and Special Technical Advisor.
In charge of regulating professional boxing in Ghana, the committee was established on Monday by Sports Minister Kofi Adams.
The nine-member body, which consists of professionals from a variety of areas, will be chaired by former Ghana Boxing Authority President Samir Captan.

The Minister stated during the ceremony in Accra that the action was required to bring safety, professionalism, and integrity back to a sport that has produced world-renowned athletes like Joseph Agbeko, Ike Quartey, and Azumah Nelson.
He pointed out that unprofessional behavior and lax regulations have been hallmarks of Ghanaian boxing’s recent standards deterioration.
It was said that the untimely death of Nigerian boxer Gabriel Oluwasegun Olanrewaju in the Bukom Boxing Arena served as a wake-up call, highlighting the need for reform.
Stronger medical, insurance, and safety regulations for athletes will be ensured by the IMC, which would supervise professional boxing operations and reform the Professional Boxing Association under the leadership of Captan and Nelson as Vice Chairman.
During its three-month term, the committee will “walk the talk” and bring order back to Ghana’s boxing scene, according to chairman Samir Captan.
