Ghana’s Minister for Communications and Digital Innovations, Sam Nartey George, and the Executive Secretary of the National Film Authority (NFA), Kafui Danku, have both responded to allegations by Nigerian actress and filmmaker Bimbo Ademoye over the unauthorized broadcast of her movies on Ghanaian television stations.
The officials gave assurances that steps are being taken to address the issue and protect intellectual property rights in Ghana.
“My attention has been drawn to your post thanks to the tag,” Sam George posted on social media platform X. “I would be raising the issue with my colleague Minister responsible for overseeing television content. I however wish to assure you that our government is very respectful of intellectual property rights and would ensure the protection of same.”
He added that Ghana and Nigeria share deep creative ties and can achieve more through collaboration.
Bimbo, in her response, expressed appreciation: “Thank you for the honor with your response, sir. I sincerely appreciate it. I look forward to this being done.”
On her part, Kafui Danku acknowledged the issue and promised swift action.
“Hi ma’am, my management and I are working on putting a stop to this. You should see definite actions in a couple of weeks,” she posted.
The actress, who has a strong following across Africa, earlier took to social media to call out TV stations in Ghana for allegedly airing her movies without proper licensing or permission.
The issue has sparked renewed calls for stronger enforcement of copyright laws across the West African sub-region.
Bimbo again thanked the Ghanaian authorities for their attention and urged continued collaboration between Ghana and Nigeria to support content creators and protect their work.
The Ministry of Communications and the NFA are expected to announce further steps in the coming weeks.
