Secessionist Attacks: Gov’t has failed Volta Region – Asogli Youth

Asogli Youth Chief , Sorhefia Sefadzi Agamah, says the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) has failed to protect the people of the Volta Region following the recent attacks on the region.

Members of a secessionist group believed to be part of the Trans Volta Togoland group on Friday 25th September 2020 blocked major entry points into Volta Region as part of measures to push the government to give them their sovereignty.

The group also attacked a police station and made away with weapons from their armoury which has been retrieved.

A similar incident occurred in the Ho STC yard on Tuesday 28th September 2020 when four armed men stormed demanding the keys to all the vehicles parked. The armed men allegedly set two of the mini buses ablaze when the drivers did not produce the keys.

Speaking on Atinka FM’s AM Drive with host Ekourba Gyasi, Asogli Youth Chief , Sorhefia Sefadzi Agamah argued that every government is duty bound to protect every citizen in the country despite their party affiliation.

According to the group, they strongly believe the government has disappointed the people of the Volta region and has failed to protect the region.

“ We are in a democracy and we have a government in place and so our expectation is that the government that we have put in place will protect every citizen of the country no matter what. Even if you did not vote for the particular government, the government is duty bound to  protect you. From the way things are going, these groups did not start today, they have mounted bill boards, flags etc in the region and nobody uttered a word… we feel that we have been disappointed heavily by this government,” he added
