The Save the Judiciary demonstration, led by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and supported by the Coalition of Political Parties, hit the streets of Accra Tuesday morning, drawing hundreds of Ghanaians to protest against what they describe as politically motivated moves to remove the Chief Justice, Gertrude Araba Esaaba Sackey Torkornoo, from office.

Starting from the park in front of the Court Complex, the protesters marched to the Judicial Service where they submitted a petition. The Acting Judicial Secretary, Dr. Cyracus Bapuuruh, received the petition on behalf of the institution.
Presenting the petition , Minority Leader of Ghana’s Parliament and NPP MP Alexander Afenyo-Markin delivered a strong message to the judiciary.
“If the Judiciary remains silent today, it could be any of you tomorrow,” he warned. “This is not just about one person — it is about protecting the independence of the entire judicial system.”
The demonstration will continue through Atta Mills High Street to Parliament, where another petition will be presented, and end at the Jubilee House with a final petition to the Presidency.
Organizers say the protest is a warning to government not to interfere with judicial independence and a call for transparency in all actions concerning the judiciary.
The Coalition insists that defending the Chief Justice today is a step toward safeguarding Ghana’s democracy tomorrow.
