“Stop calling me father when I enter the chamber, it’s unethical” – Bagbin to MPs

Speaker of Parliament, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin has asked Members of Parliament to stop giving him accolades when entering or leaving the chamber.

According to the longest serving Member of Parliament in the Fourth Republic, it is unethical for members to be shouting his name while he is leading procession to the chamber.

“Yes, I am the Father of the House, but that cannot be said when you are on a procession coming to the House. Please, let there be an end to ‘father oo father’. I am grateful for the levitation but that is not ethical,” Bagbin stressed.

Explaining why he wears traditional outfit these days, Bagbin revealed that he respects the customs and traditions of Africa.

“If you do not love yourself, nobody will love you. If you do not treasure yourself, nobody will treasure you. If you do not market yourself, nobody will market you. Let’s liberate ourselves from mental slavery, I have shown the way, if you do not follow, you will be left behind,” he said.

The Speaker charged members to value Ghana and market Ghana not by word but by actions.

Lamashegu: Don’t take laws into your own hands-Police to Youth

The Director of Public Affairs at the Ghana Police Service, ACP Akwesi Ofori, has urged the youth not to take the laws into their own hands even when the police does something they are not pleased with.

According him, the Police Administration under the supervision of the IGP will not watch Police Officers who fault in their line of duty go unpunished, therefore the youth should also not go on rampage when incidents like that of Tamale occurs.

His comments come following the violence that at Tamale over the weekend.

Six police Officers were interdicted over the weekend following a shooting incident at Lamashegu in Tamale.

Through the shooting, it was reported that one person died while others sustained various degrees of injuries.

According to eyewitnesses, the chaos started after a police patrol team allegedly shot a young man driving a white Toyota Camry with a DV number plate after he had refused to stop when the police stopped him.

He is said to have driven to the Chief for cover but was pursued there by the Police.
