Stop taking credit for sports achievements- Sports’ Obama tells politicians

Renowned sports journalist, Saddick Addams, has advised Ghanaian politicians to stop reaping where there have not sown.

The host of Sports Court on Atinka TV said, “instead of Ghanaian politicians to help build facilities that would improve sports in Ghana, they would rather want to score cheap political points anytime there is an achievement in any of the sports discipline.”

Adams’ comment follows the arrival of young boxer Isaac “the Royal Storm”Dogbe in Ghana after winning the 8th World Boxing Title for Ghana after many years of title drought after the likes of Professor Azumah Nelson, Ike Bazuka Quartey, Joshua Clottey, Joseph Agbeko among others.

Some politicians stormed the Kotoka International Airport to welcome Isaac Dogbe and also congratulate the rising star for the laurels he is bringing to Ghana. Aside  the photo opportunity, some of the politicians used the occasion to trumpet  what their various political parties or governments will be doing to support the successful sportsmen and teams.

Saddick Adams aka Sports Obama, reiterated the inability of successive governments to provide sporting facilities across the country especially boxing gyms for young boxers to train in the discipline.

“Apart from the SSNIT boxing arena, there is no facility in any part of Ghana for the youth who have interest in boxing to go and practice, but when the individuals struggle on their own and win competitions for Ghana, the politicians come and take pictures as if they have played any role in the development of the individual’s career”.

The current administration has also done nothing for the past one and half years in office to support sports in the country so politicians should stop insinuating that Ghana won a world title under President Akufo -Addo.

He said the  assertion is unreasonable because neither the  president  nor the Sports Ministry has done anything to develop boxing and sports in general.
