Suspension of NSS director not enough- GRNMA

The General Secretary of the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association, David Tenkorang Twum, says the suspension of the Ashanti Regional National Service Scheme (NSS) Director is not enough.

This comes after the Ashanti Region Director of the National Service Scheme (NSS), Alex Opoku-Mensah, was been suspended by the Scheme following his outbursts at the Manhyia hospital.

The suspension follows an emergency meeting held by management of the Scheme on Wednesday, November 30.

A statement issued by the Acting Director of Corporate Affairs, Ambrose Entsiwah Jnr, said the suspension is to allow management conduct further investigation into the alleged verbal assault on a nurse on duty at the Manhyia Government Hospital in Kumasi.

Management of the Scheme has also assured an investigation into the recorded verbal assault on the nurse as captured in a leaked tape.

In a recorded conversation, which has gone viral, a doctor’s father, Alex Opoku-Mensah, who doubles as the Ashanti Region Director of the National Service Scheme (NSS), was heard insulting a nurse of the Hospital over a “wrong prescription” encounter between his daughter (the Doctor) and the nurse.

Although Alex Opoku-Mensah has apologized for his actions, the Ashanti Region branch of the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA) has issued a statement calling for his dismissal.

Speaking with Atinka News, General Secretary of the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association, David Tenkorang Twum, said the one month investigation is needless.

According to him, nurses at the Manhyia District Hospital will withdraw their services to protest the “mere suspension.”

David Tenkorang Twum revealed that the GRNMA still stands by call for the total dismissal of the NSS Director.
