Takoradi baby thief pleads guilty to charges

Mawusi Rose Fiaku who allegedly stole a One -year -old boy at the Post office market in Takoradi, last Friday has pleaded guilty to charges leveled against him in court.

The One -year -old boy was stolen from the Post office market in Takoradi, last Friday by a woman while his mother, a trader was attending to customers.

According to a close source within the police, the boy was found by the Western Regional SWAT Team around Effiekuma Zongo around 11pm on Monday.

The suspect, together with her accomplice, a guy believed to be a Togolese, suffered a mob attack after which the police intervened and   arrested them for further interrogation and prosecution. 

Meanwhile, the baby was sent to the Effia-Nkwanta Regional Hospital for medical attention.

The suspect who appeared in court Wednesday, March 27, 2019, Fiaku, asked the court to temper justice with mercy since due to her pregnancy.

The court presided by judge Abena Agyin Doku however ignored her plea and remanded her to custody till April 5, 2019.

The court has also ordered the police to conduct a pregnancy test on her.

Her alleged accomplice, Lawson Lartey, pleaded not guilty to his charges adding that he had no idea the baby was stolen.

The court has remanded both and charged with child stealing and conspiracy to commit a crime.
