A massive fire has ravaged the central warehouse of the Northern Electricity Distribution Company (NEDCo) in Tamale, destroying essential electrical materials, including a significant number of transformers and electric cables.
This has resulted in losses estimated at several millions of Ghana cedis.
The fire, which broke out around 2pm on Sunday, March 2, 2025, sent thick plumes of smoke into the sky, attracting residents and workers in the area.
Speaking to the media, Mr. Maxwell Kotoka, Corporate Communications Manager at NEDCo, confirmed that a substantial number of transformers and electrical installations were consumed by the fire.
He noted that while the exact financial loss is yet to be determined, experts estimate it could run into millions of cedis due to the high cost of transformers and electrical materials.
He, however, assured the public that no community would experience power outages as a result of the incident.
“The affected area is only our warehouse, and for now, no community will be affected. It is only our warehouse that will remain without power,” he added.
