Tema East: Security beefed up after attack on NPP office

The leadership of the ruling New Patriotic Party in the Tema East Constituency of the Greater Accra region, has warned of a possible reprisal attack following the Tuesday’s dawn destruction of party properties by some members of the NDC.

The warning comes at the heels of heightened security presence in the area.

Tuesday’s dawn attack by some NDC supporters, which led to the destruction of several properties including the Tema East party office of the New Patriotic Party and a public toilet, has sparked tension in Tema New Town, a suburb of Tema.

Supporters of the NDC following Monday night arrest of their parliamentary candidate, Isaac Ashai Odamten on the orders of an Accra High Court, took to the streets and vandalized properties belonging to perceived NPP sympathizers.

The NDC PC was detained following his inability to meet the bail requirement of some 10 million GHC in a case of causing financial loss during his tenure as Tema Mayor.

There are fears of a possible retaliation from the camp of the NPP as tension heightens. The NPP in a press conference this afternoon warned, they will not be intimidated by the recent development.

Constituency Secretary, Nene Sakite, said all they need is justice and will surcharge the NDC for damages caused to their properties.

Meanwhile some supporters of the NPP, have warned of a possible reprisal attacks if care is not taken.
